Working with and reporting into a progressive, dynamic and newly appointed Managing Director, your extensive HSEQ skills and experience will be required to develop and implement a Health, Safety, Environment and Quality management strategy for the company as well as a HSEQ Communication strategy to ensure efficient work systems and safe working conditions in compliance with applicable legislation and standards. With three direct reports, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining HSEQ management programs and systems, support line management in establishing, promoting a culture of health and safety first, and achieving HSEQ objectives. The HSEQ manager is further responsible for the security management services according to the agreed Service Level Agreement and contract with a third-party service provider.

**The Role**:
**Key responsibilities include**:

- HSEQ requirements
- Determine the strategic direction and work priorities (in conjunction with executive management) for the continuous improvement of the company’s HSEQ management program and systems.
- Develop, implement, maintain, and manage the company’s HSEQ integrated management system in compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001. Lead the drive for continual improvement of the management system.
- Full responsibility for company preparation for annual/periodic IMS audits on the three standards and retaining current accreditations or working towards attainment of new accreditations.
- Ensure the implementation and management of changes regarding the OHS Act (85 of 1993) and Regulations, Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act, Environmental Act and Local Authority Bylaws.
- Ensure statutory compliance (Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) and Environmental Acts and bylaws) and regulatory compliance (ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001) by regularly conducting internal system and site audits.

- Implement Group Safety Standards, update safety improvement plans in line with these standards, and report on compliance. Advise / assist line management with implementation of new or existing HSEQ-related changes and ensure awareness training of relevant stakeholders.
- Establish HSEQ objectives in collaboration with line management and relevant stakeholders.
- Attend and report at relevant management meetings on HSEQ and Security performance and identified leading indicators, including facilitation of HSEQ and management review meetings.
**Employee Management and development**
- Liaison with HR Department for initiating and coordinating training plans in terms of HSEQ standards / procedures and updating information for personal, audit and Personal Development Plan (PDP) requirements.
- Develop an effective HSEQ Communication Strategy for all operations and levels of staff to include written information, toolbox talks and management briefs.
- Provide support and expertise to line management in incident management, reporting and investigation (including dangerous occurrences and occupational diseases).
- Ensure that all forms of risk assessment are conducted, and safe work instructions are in place for all the departments, including the security division. Assist departments with establishing controls as per risk assessments.
- Ensure emergency preparedness and response in compliance with requirements.
- Ensure occupational health and safety related surveys are conducted as per protocols.
- Ensure effective induction of new employees, contractors, and visitors on applicable standards and/or procedures.
- Ensure all legal and safety appointments are in place, in accordance with the OHS Act (85 of 1993) and relevant Regulations’ requirements.
- Liaise with external authorities and stakeholders where required.
**Key Requirements**:

- Degree or B-Tech in Safety Management - SAMTRAC or NEBOSH could be an advantage
- 7-10 years’ experience as Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) Manager
- Certificates on ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards and Lead Auditor training
- Experience reporting to Exco committee
- Computer Literate (MS Office including MS Projects)
- Experience with SHEQ management systems development, implementation, and maintenance
- Working knowledge and experience in incident / non-compliance management processes
- Experience in security management and implementation of security measures
- Knowledge of statutory reg
