**The Role**:
CDTV stands for “Compressed Digital Television”, and within the Managed Services team, the **CDTV Specialist** plays a crucial role in ensuring that MultiChoice’s GOtv and DStv broadcasts keep running 24/7/365. You’re responsible for the systems that compress the audio and video to prepare it for broadcast, the systems that encrypt the audio and video, the systems that insert the program-specific service information, and the multiplexers that package it all together into transport streams ready for uplink to various satellites. Your equipment sits at multiple sites, with various redundancy models, serving multiple geographic regions in many different languages and formats.

**Managed Services**:
The Managed Services team in Randburg is responsible for the design, commissioning, system integration, system testing, monitoring and operation of the various broadcast and headend components that allow MultiChoice to offer its services to consumers. To that end, we’re looking to hire for the role of CDTV Specialist.

**Your mission at Irdeto**:

- Daily system health checks: Checking of Compression platform, DMX DJ app server, BTD production servers, GoAds servers and Dektec.
- Daily/Monthly checks and redundancy checks to ensure effective operation of compression systems.
- AD HOC End-to-End SI requests: Changing config files on the Nextgen and OpenTV platforms, modifying batch scripts, providing error reports, Software updates, etc.
- Standby support: Primary support for all VOD and interactive issues and secondary support for all compression/scrambling issues.
- Project deployment: Design and implement solutions for the current VOD and interactive environment, projects including: iLo system monitoring implementation, Splunk implementation, etc.
- DMX support: support DMX servers by logging all change controls and provide physical assistance when needed.
- Governance support: Support Head-end team with the logging of SMA-X changes. Logging of 3rd party changes for CDTV team. Support CDTV team with Tenable, PAM and Antivirus support.
- Document manuals, software installations, wiring diagrams and cutting sheets.
- SOP writing, review and updates. Including RCA’s.
- Performs preventative maintenance to all Headend devices and systems.
- Setup and operate disaster recovery for Interactive/VOD platforms.
- Setup monitoring and analyses tools
- Tests new products, devices and systems upgrades.
- Implement and deploy new technologies, devices and system upgrades.
- Keep abreast with relevant technologies and systems.
- Work according to Irdeto quality processes and guidelines as applicable

**Additional Responsibilities**:

- Setup and Install rack wiring and rack power including setup APC Power Distribution Units for remote control.
- Housekeeping and Inventory management of CDTV devices and tools.
- Training customers (Command Center) on current and new systems.
- Support DTH team with any installation/maintenance of equipment as required.

**How you can add value to the team?**
- Bachelor of Technology in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, or National Diploma in Electronic/Electrical Engineering and equivalent experience
- Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in technical support and implementation of broadcast products and systems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain professional internal and external relationships that meet Irdeto’s core values.
- Knowledge in Conditional Access Systems (CAS) and Scramblers.
- Experience in broadcast compression of Linear TV and Direct to Home systems.
- In-depth knowledge of networking and IP content delivery technologies and systems
- Knowledge contribution of services, transcoding and encoding.
- Experience in troubleshooting of broadcast value chain.
- Experience in troubleshooting IP based network issues.
- Experience in using broadcast analysis tools (DekTec)
- Experience in Linux configuration and administration.
- Experience in Cisco configuration and networks.
- Experience with remote monitoring using Dataminer and Stream Probe.
- Excellent technical writing ability and presentation skills.
