**JOB PURPOSE**

To carry out various tasks allocated to the Technical Department including making samples, evaluating raw materials, evaluating finished products, and preparing demonstration and test panels. To ensure that the R&D
Laboratory housekeeping is maintained, including all equipment and mixers as well as storage of completed samples. Assisting Quality Control Laboratory as required.

**DIMENSIONS**

To take responsibility for the manufacture and testing of design and development samples, the recording of process observations and the monitoring and upkeep of measuring equipment, housekeeping in the laboratory.

**KEY RESULT AREAS**
i. Checking that the quantity and condition of raw materials required for each laboratory sample is correct.

ii. Making up samples as directed accurately and reporting any process observations such as poor consistency, length of time required to obtain fineness of grind, difficulty in obtaining colour, gloss and other finished sample properties.

iii. Carrying out accurately specified quality control and other tests on laboratory samples,

iv. Carrying out minor sample adjustments, such as viscosity, colour or sheen to ensure compliance with the proposed specification.

v. Reporting on the feasibility of manufacturing laboratory formulations in the factory. This includes mixer capability and batch card instructions.

vi. Monitoring of Production Test Batches to ensure that the batch cards are accurately followed.

vii. Carrying out evaluation tests on alternative raw materials.

viii. Carrying out evaluation testing of competitors products.

ix. Carrying out evaluation testing on The company Paints products.

x.Reporting all non-conformances to the Quality Manager or Technical Manager.

xi.Ensuring that retained samples of each laboratory sample is kept and recorded accordingly.

xii.Reporting on all quality issues to the Quality Control Supervisor or Quality Manager.

xiii. Assisting the quality control laboratory as required.

xiv. Preparing demonstration and test panels as required

**MAIN WORKING RELATIONSHIPS**

Directly reporting to the R&D Lab Supervisor and Technical Manager.

None

**PROBLEM SOLVING / COMPLEXITY**

1. Carrying out simple rectification of non-conforming samples such as viscosity, sheen/gloss and other colour variations under the Technical Directors guidance
2. Assessing the condition of laboratory raw materials and renewing laboratory stocks when existing materials are in poor condition or depleted.
3. Identifying and reporting on laboratory batch process irregularities and recommending improvements.
4. Recognising delays on laboratory batches and reporting on possible improvements on quality control methods.
5. Interpretation of test results and reporting results to the relevant authority.
6. Ability to understand and carry out Procedures and Works Instructions.
7. Ability to check prepared test and demonstration panels for good workmanship.

5. To have a good practical knowledge and experience of paint manufacturing

**KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE/SKILLS**

Minimum qualifications: Matriculation pass in science and mathematics.
At least 1 year experience as quality control laboratory assistant, preferably in paint or chemical environment.

**Job Type**: Contract
Contract length: 12 months

**Salary**: R6,500.00 per month
