Carpenter

Babylonstoren is currently looking for a highly skilled and experienced carpenter to join the maintenance team. You will work hand in hand with the maintenance team as well as operational staff on all woodworking projects. The main aim of this position will be to construct, install and repair wooden features and furniture in our five-star hotel and garden; meticulous attention to detail will be essential to maintain a top-class appearance.

**Requirements**:

- A completed National Senior Certificate qualification (matric / Grade 12)
- A completed carpentry apprenticeship
- 5-10 years’ woodworking experience
- Up-to-date knowledge of carpentry techniques and methods including joining, cornering, and mortising
- Detail orientated and accurate, with high standards when it comes to completed work
- Able to thrive in a high-pressure work environment
- Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Focussed on maintaining a safe work environment

**Responsibilities**:

- Build window frames, doors, staircases, shutters, frames and walkways
- Read and interpret drawings and sketches. Must also be innovative and able to make own rough drawings for illustration purposes
- Cut, shape and finish timber to precise sizes as required
- Accuracy when making measurements for optimising recovery when ordering materials
- Have a good understanding of blending wood to fit into surroundings and matching the finish of existing wooden structures
- Maintain a clean, neat and safe workshop
- Inspect existing woodwork and do regular maintenance as needed
- Comply with all company policies and procedures
