**Job Description**:

- The Safety Assurance Specialist is responsible to support and advise the line organisation in executing self-assurance against standards, procedures, regulations as well as supporting external audits.

**Safety, Health, Environment, Legal and Regulatory, Social, Reputational and Financial**
- Act as a role model and create a workplace culture where SHE and Risk Management for the site is paramount
- Actively challenge and act on unsafe behaviours without the fear of repercussions

**Performance and Delivery**
- Provide input on effective corrective actions needed to mitigate issues identified in audits
- Coach line on best ways to do audits and identify ways to improve efficacy/reduce need for the audit
- Support line verification activities resulting from audits
- Drive the process to obtain and retain appropriate external certificates
- Introduce new technology to auditing/assurance approach, and ways to be more efficient and effective
- Provide input to monitoring approach to ensure as efficient as possible
- Support implementation and monitoring of Group Assurance programmes for the assigned sites, including regulatory compliance
- Evaluate compliance assurance programme implementation and performance continuously
- Advise on and support site assurance against standards, procedures, regulations
- Support the setup of reporting structures and monitoring of assurance status as required by Group and/or external parties

**Compliance**
- Support compliance with external (legislative, regulatory, permitting) requirements
- Ensure compliance with Anglo American requirements
- Selectively Support investigation of high-severity and high-potential incidents (safety, health, environmental and social)
- Other requirements as assigned by your Manager.
- Qualifications
- An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours degree or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as science, engineering, or other related careers plus a formal qualification in Safety combined with practical safety experience of at least 3 to 5 years; local requirements might deviate according to laws and regulations

**Experience**:

- Detailed knowledge of Operational Risk Management as well as a thorough understanding of operations
- Demonstrated experience in an assurance position within a technical environment, including the coordination of knowledge sharing with broader stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience working in an assurance position at a project, operation or BU level in mining Industry.
- Track record of interfacing with and influencing colleagues at all levels and coordinating disciplines relevant to assurance
- An understanding of the operational aspects associated with mining operations
- Knowledge of safety policies, procedures and the important role of consistently demonstrating required behaviours and championing safety values

**Social process skills are the people skills needed to ensure effective interactions with other people to achieve productive outcomes and build effective relationships.**
- Effectively influence and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve required outcomes
- Ability to facilitate agreement and co-operation using a diplomatic and open approach
- Effective in working with diverse teams and sensitive to local social, political and cultural realities
- Comfortably interact across all mediums of interaction i.e. face to face vs virtual interactions with team and stakeholders
- Uses networks in all stages of decision making to ensure decisions are not made in isolation, though not to the extent that would be seen as abdicating responsibility

- Successfully obtain a Red Ticket (Medical Fitness Certificate) on mine.
