RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for:

- Teaching in and coordinating the following modules offered by the Department of Public Law at both undergraduate and postgraduate level:

- Environmental Law; and
- Extractive Industry Law in Africa;
- Conducting academic scholarly research;
- Engaging with the community through teaching, supervision and research that is embedded in and responsive to the African and South African social context;
- Having an in-depth understanding of own area of specialisation to enable development of new knowledge, innovation and understanding within the field;
- Supervising masters and doctoral students;
- Mentoring students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Academic administration and management;
- Performing other duties as delegated by Head of the Department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

- LLD / PhD degree in one of the above mentioned fields or related fields;
- At least five years’ tertiary teaching experience;
- Conference papers delivered;
- Evidence of successful supervision of at least two research master’s degrees or four coursework master’s mini-dissertations will be a strong recommendation;
- Evidence of community engagement;
- Proven record of academic administration and academic citizenship

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

- Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team.
- Appropriate communication skills.
- Participation in academic conferences, seminars, and workshops.
- Ability to plan and initiate discipline-related research.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
