Boiler Operator

**Job Advert Summary**:
Rainbow Chicken is on the lookout for a Boiler Operator who will be based at our Processing plant that is based in Rustenburg. The successful incumbent will maintain a constant steam supply at a designated pressure to the Processing Plant and Rendering Plant.

**Minimum Requirements**:
Grade 12
Accredited Coal Fired Boiler Operator Training Certificate (preferably from John Thompson)
Able to work independently as well as a member of a team
Adequate technical know-how of coal fired boilers
Good organisational and planning skills as well as problem-solving.
Detail Orientated.
The ability to execute more than one task at the same time.
Good communication skills - written and verbal skills
Planning and co-ordinating skills

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
**Boiler Operation**
Maintain a constant steam supply at a designated pressure to the Processing Plant, Rendering Plant.
Operate the boiler in a safe manner as per coal fired boiler operator training
Ensure that feed water chemical dosing and brine mixing for water softeners is carried out to the required standard.
Observe FD and ID fan speed in conjunction with draft meters on panel that the boiler is operating and controlled according to steam load/requirement to ensure that the fire doesn’t burn backwards.
Operation of fan dampers to set specified, draft openings, water level, and steam pressure of the boiler.
Ensure that all boiler mountings are in their normal operating condition.
Maintain a log of boiler hotwell level, boiler feedwater meter, feedwater temperature, water analysis result, condensate return temperature and flow rate, steam pressure gauge readings, and coal bed height
Conduct mobrey sequencing valve blowdown for both single and dual mobreys.
Clean and maintain 5S in the boiler house and surrounding area
Check and empty ash and grit trolley in accordance with environmental requirements.
Management of boiler assistant.

**Maintenance**
Report defects on the boilers and boiler house by completing defect book for attention to maintenance artisan and ensure repairs are done.
By-weekly cleaning of the fire tubes
Assist the Artisan with minor maintenance of the boiler.

**Administration**
Manage coal stock delivery and flag late or non-delivery to avoid depletion of the coal supply, which could lead to production downtime.
Manage salt stock delivery and flag late or non-delivery to avoid depletion of the salt supply, which could lead to production downtime.
Record daily and hourly actions and consumption in order to obtain a history log on the operational efficiency of the boiler.
