**Qualifications and Required Skills**:

- B.Bibl, BInf degree or Bachelor’s Degree plus Postgraduate Diploma in LIS and/or Honours in LIS (Library and Information Science), with 7 years’ experience and knowledge of trends and technology at the professional level in interlibrary loans field in an academic/research libraries of which 5 years should be in management
OR
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (LIS), with 6 years experience and knowledge of trends and technology at the professional level in interlibrary loans field in an academic/ research library of which 5 years should be in management
The person in this post reports to the Associate Director: Information Resources, Access and Operations

**Knowledge and skills**:

- Knowledge of interlibrary loan services and procedures.
- Experience with library cataloguing and classification systems.
- Ability to research, locate, and access materials held in all libraries.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide strategic leadership by planning and overseeing workflow, procedures, and policies, including implementation of new services and other relevant services
- Ensure that interlibrary loans services are benchmarked against international best practice
- Identify and coordinate special projects within the section
- Provide professional management of the Interlibrary Loans Services as well as clear direction and vision
- Responsible for all aspects of interlibrary loans service
- Monitor and manage incoming and outgoing interlibrary loans requests
- Maintain communication with other libraries regarding interlibrary loans requests
- Plan, develop and budgets and expenditure for the interlibrary loans section
- Ensure corporate governance and the promotion of sustainability
- Identify risks pertaining to the interlibrary loans section; prepare mitigation strategies and controls; manage and report on risks
- Ensure process improvement by enhancing interlibrary loans section performance through process analysis, creativity and innovation
