**Job Purpose**:
The incumbent of this role will ensure that there is proper oversight of all maintenance work conducted on all the Airline’s aircraft as per the Airline Operating Certificate (AOC) locally as well as abroad, to ensure continuous airworthiness of SAA aircraft in accordance with the prescribed South African Civil Aviation Authority Regulations SACAA 121.

As such, the role will also ensure that internal and external audits and investigations are conducted on Company vendors, repairers, suppliers, contract maintenance facilities in compliance with FAR and EASA Part 121 and the SA-CAA (CATS / CARS, Part 43, General Maintenance Rules (GMR) and Part 121 Airworthiness).

The role will ensure compliance to the SACAA Safety Management Program SA CATS 140 and ICAO Doc 9859, as well as maintain the balance between Aircraft utilisation and the prescribed maintenance time for a safe and reliable operation. Further to this, maintaining close relations with the company’s key stake holders to ensure business continuity without compromising safety will be upheld.

In so doing, the incumbent ensures that all Company Policies and Procedures and regulatory requirements are adhered to as well as the IOSA Recommended Standards and Practices in order for the Airline to continue to maintain IATA and Star Alliance membership.

Lastly,** **the role will be required to support the optimization of the Flight Technical and Maintenance Standards function and is so doing provide service to the Flight Operations Department.

**Principal Accountabilities**:

- Provide input into the design of the Flight Technical and Maintenance Standards Strategy taking into account specialist expertise, best practice, benchmarking and market standards etc.
- Implements department strategy within area of responsibility
- Recommends policies, processes, action plans and systems to support implementation of the strategy
- Analyse cost drivers and provide recommendations on profitability of Flight Technical and Maintenance Standards
- Support the management and control of budget in area of responsibility
- Ensure cost containment measures are practiced
- Provides recommendations on profitability
- Utilises resources in area of responsibility in a time and cost effective manner
- Optimise technology to enhance internal and external customer expectations
- Maintain effective internal and external stakeholder relationships through appropriate relationship building and networking
- Enforce Governance and Risk Management policies, processes and systems
- Deliver on regular and timeous reporting of information to key stakeholders
- Drive continuous optimisation programmes and initiatives
- Engage in trend analysis, benchmarking, research, best practice to support optimisation of department
- Manages projects to contribute to the optimisation of the department and division
- Ensure MRO policies support adequately qualified maintenance and inspection personnel; training and licensing program/procedures in line with Regulators
- Ensures that company aircraft are maintained in an airworthy condition; (GT16’s, GT/16A, GT256’s, AD’s, GT2A’s, GT/20’s, TL/4’s, MEL’s, AMS’s & C of A’s), but not limiting to.
- Ensure that all inspections, repairs and component changes are accomplished in accordance with the manufacturer’s approved procedures; distribution and amendment procedures for Approved A/C Maintenance Manuals, Mod Bulletins etc.
- Ensure compliance with maintenance procedures, airworthiness directives, service bulletins, service letters and the regulations; Airworthiness Directions
- Ensuring that all maintenance technicians are trained and current on the types of aircraft for which approved
- Ensure Training programs and Quality Assurance of MRO’s supports the type of aircraft SAA utilises
- Ensure that all maintenance technicians are certified and supervised according to the requirements specified in the regulations
- Assist in the production and amendment of the policy and procedures manual; SAA Maintenance Control Manual (SAA MCM)
- Ensure continuous co-ordination with maintenance contracting agencies when maintenance activities are being performed on company aircraft in accordance with the SAA/SAAT Maintenance Contract
- Provides the Lead Maintenance Standards & Airworthiness, as well as the Chief Technical Captain with the current airworthiness status of the aircraft and the forecast down times to facilitate maintenance scheduling and ensure timely deferral or correction of aircraft discrepancies
- Assist in maintaining a close liaison with manufacturer’s representatives, parts supply houses, repair facilities and SACAA
- Ensure that all maintenance personnel have access to the necessary overhaul manuals, service bulletins, service letters, airworthiness directives, applicable sections of the MCM/MPM and any other required technical data
