Welder Assistant

**PURPOSE**

To assist and support the Welding team the Mechanical workshop artisans with the fabrication of spares and repair of crates through welding by using cutting torch/grinder.

**SPAN OF CONTROL**

This role reports into the Mechanical Workshop Manager.

**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & OUTPUTS**
- Assist with fabrication and repairs of bobbin crates/ barriers/structures/handrails and platforms.
- Assist with the decommission of the plant using cutting torches, dismantling of machinery and rigging.
- Practice safe working activities to keep the environment safe.
- Follow and maintain housekeeping practices.
- Loading and offloading of heavy machinery using Forklift
- Identify and report safety risks and hazards within the workshop and complying with relevant safety procedures and regulations.
- Operate various basic tools (i.e., hammers, chisels, G-clamps)
- Perform any other reasonable tasks as requested by Supervisor.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Grade 12/Matric with Maths/Maths Lit and English

**REQUIREMENTS**
- 3-5 years working experience in a similar role.
- Must be physically fit to work with weight of an average of +/-60 kgs.
- Forklift Licence essential
- Ability to work on heights.
- Ability to work in confined spaces due to operational requirements.
- Ability to work in standing position for extended hours.
- Must be comfortable working on elevated surfaces.
- Must be flexible to working extended hours.
