**The Construction Superintendent has the overall responsibility for coordinating and integrating construction activities on site for those areas**

- Manage subcontractors assigned to perform site work in areas he/she is responsible for,
including:
- Subcontractor liaison.
- Construction coordination.
- Environment, Health, Safety and Security.
- Commissioning in conjunction with the site Commissioning Manager.
- Material management, distribution of store materials to work areas.
- Planning and Progress reporting
- Site Administration.
- Document Control (Administration and Contracts)
- Quality Assurance management including follow up and close out of open NCR’s in conjunction with QA.
- Ensures site staff compliance with the Lesedi NS Health and Safety Policy and Plan.
- Ensures site staff compliance with the Lesedi NS Environmental Management Plan and compliance with the
requirements of the ROD and EPA is mandatory.
**Kick-Off**:
- Assume responsibility as Construction Superintendent.
- Familiarise with areas of responsibility.
- Verify details of required construction work required.
**Execute**:
- The construction Superintendent’s work is site based and will spend the largest majority of his/her time on
site in the work area he/she is responsible for.
- Track and inform the Construction Manager of the progress of works and of any occurrence in field that may
affect the Project execution.
- Manage subcontractors on site to ensure delivery according to the project plan.
- Attend relevant site meetings.
- Complete (fill in) project documents during implementation as required.
- Verify that the contactors Health and Safety plans are in accordance with the Health and Safety
Specification and approve the Health and Safety plan in accordance with the requirements of the
construction regulations.
- Perform regular site walkabouts to personally ensure compliance to the Health and Safety Plan.
- Must be familiar with the project EMP and conduct regular meetings with the environmental officer to
ensure the EMP plan requirements and guidelines are being adhered to.
- Ensure that the Project Industrial Relations Policy and Procedures are implemented by the contractors.
- Maintain relations with all local external organizations and statutory bodies.
- Ensure in co-operation with the Construction Manager that the contractors are performing the works
according to their contractual obligations.
- Verify that the procedures for construction works progress measurements are correctly implemented.
- Ensure that defective product produced by subcontracts is repaired in line with contract requirements.
- Identify and manage interfaces such as Permits to Work, site specific Health and Safety requirements,
shutdown requirements, etc. to minimize the impact of construction on operations.
- Verify that the procedures for construction works progress measurements are correctly implemented e.g.
quality assurance.
- Responsible to ensure that the construction activities are executed and coordinated according to the
construction strategies and plan, and that the scheduled targets, in terms of the progress, are achieved.
- Responsible to ensure the availability at Site of the material to be incorporated into the plant complies with\
activity schedule, and that that all materials are stored, protected, handled and installed to contractual
obligations.
- Measure personnel performance via agreed KPI’s.
- Establish and communicate the job description for all site personnel with clear responsibilities.
- Responsible to manage and control subcontractor construction documentation and to ensure it is collected,
stored and reviewed.
- It is a mandatory requirement for this role on the project to be a Responsible Person in terms of the OHSA
act to allow the taking out of Permit to Works.
- Prepare construction documentation of responsible areas, for inclusion in final handover pack.
- Demobilise site.
- Assist in preparing lessons learnt register.
**Qualifications**:
- Artisan / Technician (National Certificate) + 5 years related experience including quality assurance principles. **OR**:
- Technician (Engineering diploma - ND) + 3-year related experience including quality assurance principles.
- OHSA and Construction Regulations training.
- Should be eligible to become a PR CM. (Senior Construction Superintendent).
**Experience**:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as Construction Supervisor or related experience.
- Practical site construction experience shall be mandatory.
- Project Co-ordination experience will be advantageous.
- Must have quality control related experience.
