**QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, COMPETENCIES**:
**a. Qualifications (typical)**:
i. Technical Certificate N4 or equivalent (enrolment in further studies will be preferable)
ii. CAD-AutoCAD and 3D (Autodesk Inventor, Vault) experience essential. Completion of a certified
Autodesk Inventor fundamentals and advanced modelling courses mandatory.
iii. Microsoft Office - Outlook, Excel and Word skills essential.
**b. Experience**:
i. Minimum of 5 years experience in mechanical design and fabrication detailing. Specific
experience in the pyrometallurgical industry and more specifically on submerged arc furnaces
will be advantageous.
**c. Knowledge required**:
i. The principles of 2D and 3D Modelling.
ii. Strong working understanding of 3D Modelling environment from layout generation, part and
assembly modelling, general arrangement drawing creation and part detailing.
iii. Reporting of mechanical design status on all assigned tasks.
iv. Working knowledge of mechanical equipment related to the pyrometallurgical industry and more
specifically on submerged arc furnaces.
v. Strong mathematical and communication skills.
**d. Skills**:
i. Self-starter, ability to work under pressure and to deadlines, results and delivery orientated.
ii. Sound written and verbal communication skills.
iii. Interpret drawings and specifications for internal, client and contractor use.
iv. Listening to, interpreting and understanding feedback from clients and team members.
v. Team player and interpersonal motivational skills.
vi. Document control.
**6. DUTIES**:
i. Site visits and customer service.
ii. Working with sub-suppliers to achieve quality concepts and design intent.
iii. Work within the company policies and procedures.
iv. Responsible for the specification compliance of all designs.
v. Responsible for mechanical part selection taking into consideration obsolescence, availability and
cost.
vi. Responsible for preparing and presenting mechanical designs at design reviews and generating
minutes from said review.
vii. Responsible for identifying mechanical part numbers in accordance with materials.
viii. Responsible for production of 2D drawings for manufacture.
ix. Responsible for generation of assembly drawings and bills of materials.
x. Responsible for carrying out design change requests in a timely manner.
xi. Responsible for reporting progress of all assigned tasks to the engineering technology manager
and project management teams.
xii. Responsible for checking drawing/parts list are up to date and correct.
xiii. Responsible for checking and validating engineers designs and drawings where required.
xiv. Ensures design files and information are kept up to date and stored in accordance with
departmental procedures.
xv. Ensures the mechanical design output complements all other aspects of the design.
xvi. Works closely with operations, manufacturing and production engineers to ensure products are
designed for successful manufacture.
xvii. To take technical lead on specific projects and agree technical approach with the engineering
manager.
xviii. Take responsibility for coaching and supporting in all design techniques for junior staff.
xix. Identify personal or design team training requirement and recommend suitable courses to design
head.
Highlight all mechanical and technical risks to engineering manager.
xxi.Keep up to date with the latest manufacturing techniques and drawing standards.
xxii. Always available for onsite technical and customer support.
xxiii. Liaison with other company employees regularly to update design status.
xxiv. Produces designs to specified deadlines and achieves the required timescales.
xxv. Any other ad hoc tasks assigned.
