**About the role**:
We are offering an exciting opportunity for an intellectually curious, highly motivated and passionate actuary in our Swiss Re Europe, Middle East and Africa Medical Insurance Products team in Cape Town. You will play an important role in providing high quality actuarial support to help grow the Medical Insurance business in Africa, Middle East and Europe. As a member of the Europe, Middle East and Africa Medical Insurance Products team, you will contribute to the development of innovative, market leading health reinsurance solutions and positively impact critical business and societal challenges.

Specific responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to the following:
1.Pricing and steering of existing and new business
- Perform day-to-day pricing, monitoring and benefit design for the relevant target markets.
- Support clients with the benefit design and pricing of products.
- Assume a proactive approach and critical reviews of pricing, benefit design and in steering of existing and new business.
- Participate in client meetings, to understand client's needs, share our view of results and jointly steer the business together with our client partners.
- Assist in identifying and driving risk management interventions that will help our clients to limit the increase in cost of healthcare expenditure.
- Reviewing and approving within given authority group quotes our clients refer to us.

2. Control and Monitoring process
- Assist with the production of monitoring reports for both internal and external use, to ensure that the performance of our different clients is tracked regularly.
- Analysing reports and noting emerging trends and problems, as well as giving inputs on their successful resolution.

**About you**:

- A qualified or nearly qualified actuary
- A minimum of 4 years’ experience of which at least 3 years in a healthcare actuarial role
- Experience in medical insurance is crucial, with understanding of pricing, monitoring and benefit design with modeling as beneficial
- Excellent understanding of the South African healthcare and/or the broader African medical insurance markets, competitors, market trends and dynamics
- Experience in developing, emerging medical insurance markets in Africa would be an advantage
- Experience study and costing bases skills across Africa are highly preferential
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and independent decision-making abilities
- Good working experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Good working experience with SQL-based programs
- Experience with SAS will be an advantage
- Experience in people, project and process management
- Strong customer focus with strong negotiation skills
- Excellent inter-personal, communication and presentations skills
- Fluent in English.
- Proficiency in French, Portuguese or Swahili would be an advantage
