**THE OPPORTUNITY**:
**Position overview**:
This is a position where you will work closely with the Chairs of the Regulatory Committee, and report to the organisation’s CEO. The incumbent will have overall responsibility for SAVCA’s regulatory, policy and public affairs initiatives within the private equity and venture capital industry. The position will require regular interaction with a wide range of stakeholders including private equity firms, international industry bodies, policymakers, legal practitioners, tax practitioners, as well as SAVCA’s board of directors and its regulatory sub-committee. Your ability to initiate and nurture critical relationships that enable SAVCA to contribute into relevant policies, as well as to support Members to navigate current and future regulatory changes, will stand you well.

**Key activities and responsibilities**:

- Lead SAVCA’s engagement and advocacy with regulators and legislators, including National Treasury, SARS, SARB, the FSCA and the DTI
- Monitor legal, regulatory and tax developments in SA and internationally that affect the private equity and venture capital industry including:

- Financial Sector Policy and Regulation
- Anti Money Laundering and Combating Terrorist Financing Legislation
- Exchange Control regulations
- The Companies Act
- Competition Regulation
- Taxation legislation and reporting
- Government aid programmes and incentives to support VC and PE
- BBBEE and related industry charters
- Fundraising in foreign jurisdictions
- Broader investment themes (e.g. property rights, FDI developments etc)
- Lead SAVCA’s advocacy efforts with policy makers to be able to clearly articulate the benefits that private equity and venture capital bring to the policy landscape and how improvements to this landscape align with various Governmental policy objectives;
- This includes research, analysis and recommendations for action to the SAVCA regulatory sub-committee;
- Provide ongoing project management, administrative and technical support to SAVCA’s regulatory sub-committee;
- Coordinate SAVCA’s interaction with law firms, accounting firms and consultants in respect of legal and regulatory developments;
- Encourage regulatory compliance among members by circulating relevant updates;
- Respond to _ad hoc _questions from SAVCA members on legal and regulatory matters;
- Draft responses and submissions to regulators and policymakers on behalf of SAVCA;
- Coordinate meetings with regulators and legislators;
- Build relationships with the relevant policy makers, regulators, consulting firms, law firms and other industry associations;
- Play a leading role in SAVCA’s work in promoting the asset class to regulators, policy
- makers, investors and other stakeholders.

**Qualifying Criteria****:
**1. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:
**_Preferred Criteria: _**:

- Post-graduate degree;
- 10 years management experience, with at least 5 years in a legal, Compliance or regulatory affairs/ policy role;
- Previous experience working with government and/or regulators at a senior level;
- Knowledge of financial services and particularly private markets, trends, the investment process and relevant regulations, will definitely benefit you in the role.

**_Essential Criteria: _**:

- Bachelor’s degree;
- 7 years’ working experience, of which at least 3 years should be in a legal, compliance or regulatory affairs role;
- Previous experience working with government and/or regulators at a senior level.
