Job overview

My client, a leading manufacturer of catering and baking equipment, is looking for a Production Foreman to join their team in Bellville South, Cape Town.

Responsibilities (not limited to)

Production Control and Improvement:

- Improve productivity and motivation of staff.
- Work according to the production schedule, priorities and production / delivery demands.
- Report all shortages to the Production Director
- Monitor consumable usage to improve cost saving.
- Do planning according to production schedule by following up parts according to BOM and drawings for each department.

Quality Control:

- Check raw
- material, parts, laser parts according to Cutting List for quality and quantity.
- Report all damages, scratches parts and shortages to the Production Director.
- Complete a Non Conformance Report (NCR), Register in File and submit copy to the Production Director and Buyer to lease with the Supplier.
- Do WIP inspection on parts in progress at Cutting Dept, Bending, Welding, Polishing, Assembly dept.
- Do Final Inspection and Testing of all equipment manufactured to assure functionality and completeness.
- Complete quality checklist during final inspection for equipment and File Document for Traceability.
- Identify equipment with a Green Sticker when inspection is complete and sign off.
- Check quantity, quality of Laser Cut Parts from Supplier according to Cutting List.
- Follow Up with supplier to make sure parts will be replaced timeously.
- If parts get damaged inside factory investigate cause, do preventative action and make sure that Buyer order replacement part. (If necessary council / issue warning operator who cause Damage.)
- Check all parts that need to go to the Assembly, Electrical Dept, Pie Display / Proover Dept and sign on the BOM.
- Before parts get issued to dept. make sure that the team leader also check quantities according to the BOM and Cutting List and sign the BOM.

Staff Supervision
- Assure that all staff is productive, issued with the necessary parts and drawings / cutting list if required and that operators are on their workstations. (Issue staff with instructions every morning with timeline to complete, follow up if quantity and quality standards are met.
- Follow production schedule / priorities.
- Check that staff clock In/Out when leaving work station to go to the toilet facilities.
- Keep record on a Timesheet of all the production staff output per day.
- Make sure that all production staff is productive by issue jobs, tasks, parts to complete, etc. (Check if all material is available before a job start to avoid shortages, report shortages in daily production meeting and follow up.)
- Collecting and sign off requisitions from production staff as per stores time schedule and make sure that consumable and stock are issued by the stores assistant.
- Report staff issues to the Production Director. Do disciplinary actions/Warning when needed and make sure that a copy is send to the Production Director to save on system/File.
- Training of staff.
- Timekeeping: Make sure that staff is on their workstations according to clock procedure and siren.
- Maintain Disciplinary Code /Rules / Regulations / Policies.
- Do regular security checks of toolboxes / lockers.
- Open and Close Factory Doors daily.
- Do daily security checks on factory staff to contribute to shrinkage. (Make use of metal detector daily.)
- Make sure that all tool lockers, machinery are switched off and safe after each shift, safety gates and doors are closed at all times and doors / roller doors and gates are locked after each shift.
- Supervise staff during Overtime - No Staff member work without supervision.
- Make sure that Cutting and Bending operators get the latest revision drawings before commence with production.

Safety:

- Make sure that all staff use their safety equipment issued, ware company overalls / boots and maintain it.
- Investigate IOD’s and do preventative actions.
- Report all safety hazards to the Production Director.
- Attend Safety meeting and do safety inspections and reports.
- Improve Safety and attend safety meetings.
- Oversee OHS.

Stock taking:

- Assist with stock take at last Saturday of each month.
- Count production tools, machinery, raw material, WIP, Consumables, parts, equipment.
- (Keep tool list updated when new tools are issued.)

Housekeeping:

- Assure that staff clean their workstations and the rest room daily,
- Organizing flow of material, parts through the system to avoid any bottle necks.
- Make sure that the outside of the factory is clean and that all pallets are neat and safeguard.

General:

- Check Compressors weekly for oil levels and make sure that water is drained daily.
- Check production machines and maintain regularly. (Bending Machines Oil levels, Welding Machines are cleaned weekly.)
