**Main Job Objectives**

To coordinate and drive transformation activities collaboratively with departments and divisions to support and ensure that the equity, transformation and institutional culture strategies and goals of the institution are met. To work closely with department and division heads to promote a culture that is inclusive, which leverages the advantages of diversity, ensuring that the institution, its staff and students actively demonstrate a commitment to equity and transformation.

**Key Performance Areas**

**Strategic Planning and Implementation**

To coordinate and drive transformation activities in support of the Institutions strategy and goals in respect of equity, transformation and institutional culture:

- Ensuring that the institutional strategic goals linked to equity, transformation and institutional culture within the institution for both students and staff are implemented
- Formulating relevant equity, transformation and institutional culture policies and plans in support of the strategic objectives
- Analysing of current institutional, academic, cultural, and employment policies, practices and procedures, and statistics to identify if possible unfair discrimination is taking place, to identify adverse impact, and to work collaboratively with department and division heads to promote advancement and inclusion of groups in terms of the execution of the Institutions equity and transformation policies
- Benchmarking of current institutional practices etc. against good practice particularly in other HE institutions
- Revising relevant policies and protocols on a regular basis as informed by the analysis of the current practice
- Given that the various equity and transformation policies and protocols cover academic/student, employment, and institutional culture arenas, this individual will need to liaise closely with all the various structures of the institution notably the Deans and Heads of Departments, the Registrars Division CHERTL and Research Office as regards the academic arena, Human Resources, Deans and Heads of Departments and Divisions as regards employment issues and the Deans, Heads of Departments and Director: Student Affairs as regards students

**Coordination**
- Working collaboratively to determine a consistent, coherent and effective programme of initiatives aimed at ensuring the strategic equity, transformation and institutional culture goals are implemented. This involves working together with various areas of the institution as regards the conceptualisation of such a programme, the Executive, the Deans, Heads of Departments and Divisions
- The contracting of service providers to assist and support initiatives where additional capacity may be necessary
- Ensuring the monitoring and evaluation of the programme and different initiatives, working with the relevant departments and divisions to identify good practice as well as necessary improvements and changes
- Ensuring that effective, comprehensive, and efficient mechanisms exist to deal with grievances of staff and students related to issues of equity, transformation and institutional culture within the institution in collaboration with the Divisions of Student Affairs and HR
- Statistical collection, tracking and analysis** **including:

- Ensuring that there are sufficient indicators to track institutions progress as regards staff and student equity and transformation
- Working collaboratively with the relevant areas in the institution to ensure that appropriate records are kept in order to track progress of the institution against its equity targets and goals
- Collating and analysing statistics from these relevant areas into reports required for internal and external purposes
- Tracking of quantitative and qualitative data on a quarterly, half-yearly and yearly basis as well as across years in relation to the achievement of goals, identifying the barriers to their achievement where necessary
- Comparison of the institutions policy and plans and progress with those of similar higher education institutions through networking with other Universities, attendance at relevant forums, etc.
- Report writing including:

- Compiling reports for internal purposes including for the Equity and Institutional Culture Committee and for external purposes including reports to the Department of Higher Education and Training, the Council on Higher Education and Universities of South Africa (USAf). The Employment Equity Report will remain the domain of the HR Division
- Answering queries addressed to the institution from external sources e.g., completing questionnaire surveys, providing of information to the Universities of South Africa
- Where necessary, representing the institution on issues related to equity, transformation and institutional culture
- Working collaboratively with the Chair of the Equity and Institutional Culture Committee to ensure that it functions effectively

**Advocacy**
- Promoting the importance of dive
