The Opportunity:
TFG is looking for a seasoned and senior Tax Executive to head up its’ Tax portfolio. Operating at a Group level this challenging role will lead and oversee all tax matters for TFG in all territories (namely South Africa, Africa and its’ International operations).

This exciting and challenging position involves extensive collaboration with the Group Financial Controller, Group CFO, corporate finance, and other key stakeholders in the business to address all tax-related matters for the organisation.

It also entails giving direct oversight to the audit committee regarding all tax related matters, including but not limited to creating, developing, and implementing overall tax policy and design. Another crucial aspect of this role would be overseeing the management of senior specialists and external service providers.

Responsibilities**:

- Ownership of group tax deliverables including reporting and strategic advice for the group
- Lead the Tax Division and support the management teams to ensure the achievement of the division’s deliverables including the international tax teams.
- Determine the strategy, approach, roles and responsibilities and tools used to achieve the team’s objectives
- Ensure compliance with requirements of the of all applicable tax related legislation and obligations
- ensure tax returns are fully compliant with applicable legislation as well as group tax policy
- Develop, propose, and document group tax policy
- Manage the groups transfer pricing, CBCR and future BEPS international tax filing requirements
- Manage tax audits to minimize penalties and interest arising from disputes
- Research, review and make recommendations on potential to participate in tax incentives
- Review monthly tax management reports and control account reconciliations
- Provide input and advice to group accounting in implementing new systems
- Maintain a high level of proficiency in all relevant Tax Acts and IFRS
- Review both draft and gazetted tax legislation and advise business accordingly
- Advise Treasury on practice notes and draft legislation when required
- Review the structure of contractual obligations to maximise deductions
- Accurate and timely delivery of reporting
- Oversee talent management for direct reports in terms of recruitment, retention and development
- Ensure adherence to performance management requirements, continuous performance feedback to develop direct reports
- Ensure that all staff are motivated, developed, and appraised so that individual and the collective performance meets the division’s deliverables
- Foster a culture of innovation, digital acumen and automation
- Regularly engage and develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders across the business, ensuring that insights and analysis can be recommended, adopted and acted on
- Manage relationship with Finance in business, Finance COE’s and the Finance Shared Services
- Manage the relationship with relevant tax authorities and audit firms within South Africa and other African countries where the Group operates, as well as assist the groups M&A division to review tax due diligences and provide tax advice as needed

**Requirements**:

- CA(SA)
- Post Graduate Tax Qualification (Equivalent to an Honours Degree)
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in tax, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Excellent knowledge of tax and tax compliance regulations
- Excellent knowledge of finance and finance processes
- Experience in acquisitions and disposals, group reorganisations is an advantage
- Proactive analytical and strategic thinking
- Good understanding of the business strategy and retail industry as a whole
- Problem solving and opportunity identifying abilities
- An attitude of leadership and resilience
- Strong interpersonal, influencing capabilities
- Strong sense of urgency with a positive impact on delivery
- Ability to manage a team and collaborate effectively with other departments
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
