The National Research Foundation (NRF) supports and promotes research and human capital development through funding, the

provision of National Research Facilities and science outreach platforms and programmes to the broader community in all fields of

science and technology, including natural sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities.

The South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) is the National Facility for Optical and Infrared Astronomy of the National Research

Foundation (NRF). Its headquarters are in Cape Town, while its telescopes are at Sutherland in the Northern Cape.

The purpose of the post is to provide support in developing, implementing and maintaining the Health and Safety Management system

within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
Ensure a safe working environment.

Facilitate site health and safety meetings

Support in developing, implementing and maintaining the Health and Safety Management system

Health and safety training on site

Identification of the hazards and risks relevant to the SAAO.

Regular coordinated site inspections.

Key Requirements:
Qualification:

- Higher Certificate in Health & Safety Management or equivalent

**Experience**:

- 3 years health and safety coordinator experience in Public Sector and National System of Innovation
- Code B drivers license

Knowledge:

- HIRA
- Health & Safety Management Systems
- Accident/incident Investigation Training
- COIDA Act Training
- ISO Systems
