Horticulturist/garden Manager

Establish and maintain high horticultural standards and practices; providing direction, training and motivation to the garden staff.
- Be actively involved in the daily horticultural tasks in the gardens and propagation tunnel.
- Manage and support overall plant health and soil nutrition for all gardens to include sustainable gardening practices and integrated pest management in the gardens.
- Coordinate irrigation systems collaboratively with Irrigation Supervisor.
- Coordinate maintenance of horticultural equipment collaboratively with Maintenance Manager.
- Be responsible for monitoring the operational department’s approved budget and drive the purchasing/ordering process in-line with the list of preferred suppliers/service providers.
- Develop production forecast for plants required for general gardens, vegetable garden and vertical green wall. Liaise with chefs to coordinate efficient production of quality produce required for the restaurant.
- Be responsible for daily instruction to teams to meet the targets according to the monthly horticultural planning. At the end of each working day obtain feedback from individuals regarding work progress.
- Be responsible for the issuing and safe return of all grounds equipment.
- Closely monitor the productivity of staff both in terms of quality and quantity to a required minimum horticultural standard by checking work in progress and when completed.
- Challenge any instances of poor productivity and poor quality providing appropriate coaching feedback to operatives.
- Ensure that staff adhere to disciplinary rules and acceptable behaviour and take necessary action in the event of breaches collaboratively with HR manager.
- Provide on-site training for horticultural activities and associated plant and equipment as required.
- Training of equipment/vehicle operators to appropriately utilize the assets in a safe manner.
- Ensure that the general appearance of the farm is upheld in a manner befitting the Estate.
