**Job Summary**

The Data Modeller will ensure that each model produced adheres to the defined modelling standards. The Data Modeller is also expected to contribute to the Data Model standards, if and where necessary.

A Business Glossary will be produced from the Entities and Attributes recorded in the logical data model.

**Responsibilities**

**General Duties**:

- Obtains the access required to extract metadata from existing databases.
- Attends daily stand-up meetings
- Attends trainings, if required (e.g., on Data Modelling tool), related to the responsibilities of the position.
- Develops logical and physical data models by reverse-engineering directly from existing databases, or if access is not provided, by reverse-engineering from table-creation scripts.
- Performs data profiling, where necessary, to gain understanding of the content and the quality of the various fields and tables.
- Ensures the data models produced are clearly understandable to both technical and business users and conform to Data Modelling standards.
- Produces a Data Catalogue that maps the logical data model elements to the physically data model.
- Produces a Business Glossary from the Logical Data Model elements.

**Education and Experience**
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology / Computer Science, or sufficient work experience in the field to obviate the need for a formal degree.
- 5+ years of relevant experience, with previous professional experience as a Data Architect or Data Modeller.
- Expert SQL and data modelling skills.
- The ability to perform reverse engineering of physical data models from databases and SQL scripts.
- Demonstrable experience in developing both logical and physical data models.
- Experience with managing metadata for data models.
- Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain key concepts in meetings and in writing to teammates from different functions and experience levels.

- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Excellent Data Modelling skills.
- Capacity to work with large amounts of data, extract relevant information and derive logical models from physical data models and data profiles.
- Ability to pay attention to detail when working with data in order to make accurate conclusions and predictions.
- Sound understanding of Relational and Dimensional data models and databases.
- Experience with one or more data profiling tools.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, within a team, and remotely.
- Able to take direction and respond effectively to constructive feedback.
