Legal and Compliance Officer

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Legal and Compliance Officer to ensure that our operations adhere to the legal and regulatory framework within the South African freight and logistics industry.

**Responsibilities**:

- 1.Legal Compliance in Freight Forwarding:

- Monitor and ensure compliance with South African laws and regulations governing freight forwarding and logistics operations.
- Assist with maintaining ISO 9001 certification of the company.
- 2.Contract Management for Logistics:

- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to freight forwarding, transportation, and logistics services.
- Ensure that contracts comply with relevant local and international regulations.
- 3.Customs and Import/Export Compliance:

- Oversee customs compliance for import and export activities and assist with SARS enquiries when needed.
- Stay abreast of changes in customs regulations and update internal processes accordingly.
- 4.Transportation Regulatory Compliance:

- Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, including licensing and permits.
- Collaborate with relevant authorities to maintain necessary certifications.
- 5.Risk Management in Logistics:

- Identify and assess legal and compliance risks associated with freight and logistics operations as per ISO 9001 regulations.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies in collaboration with the operations team.
- Promote a culture of compliance and ethical conduct within the company.

**Requirements**:

- Fluent in Afrikaans & English.
- Bachelor's degree in Law or related field.
- Proven experience as a Legal and Compliance Officer in the freight forwarding and logistics industry in South Africa.
- In-depth knowledge of South African and international laws and regulations relevant to freight forwarding and logistics.
- Familiarity with customs regulations, transportation laws, and industry standards.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Attention to detail, analytical mindset, and problem-solving skills.
