**DESCRIPTION**

The Pharmacist forms part of a team that will be implementing a COVID-19 Vaccination project within the Mpumalanga province The role of the Pharmacist is to manage the cold supply chain and deployment of COVID-19 Vaccines. The Pharmacist will work collaboratively with the vaccination teams to deliver safe, effective, timely procurement and supply of COVID-19 vaccines.

**PURPOSE**

The Pharmacist will be responsible for cold chain quality assurance within the programme, establish control checks and reporting findings. The Pharmacist will also be a part of the Change Management team.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Assess and strengthen appropriate cold chain and logistics requirements;
- Develop and strengthen supply chain strategies to receive, store, distribute and manage COVID-19 vaccines and their additional products;
- Manage distribution of COVID-19 vaccines to vaccination sites;
- Establish safety arrangements to ensure the integrity of COVID-19 vaccines and auxiliary products;
- Ensure the quality, efficacy, proper tracking, reporting of vaccine utilization and safety of COVID-19 vaccines throughout the cold chain;
- Implement procedures of reverse logistics to allow tracking of the vaccines during the vaccination programme;
- Design and implement appropriate waste management mechanisms;
- Serve as the vaccine champion for the programme;
- Ensuring compliance with good clinical/pharmacy practice;
- Provide tools and support to vaccination teams;
- Document and report on all activities

**SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES**
- Working knowledge of COVID-19 vaccination practice and procedures;
- Knowledge and experience on pharmacy practise and cold chain management;
- Ability to effectively manage the cold chain of vaccines;
- Ability to implement quality assurance checks for all vaccination processes within the programme;
- Must be able to establish control checks;
- Be able to report on findings;
- Must be able to work well under pressure;
- Strong oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to problem solve;
- Good administrative and report writing skills;
- Attention to detail;
- Ability to take corrective action as and when required;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Ability to meet project deadlines

**QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) Degree;
- Certificate in COVID-19 Vaccination Training for Health Workers;
- Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC);
- 5 years’ experience as a Pharmacist;
- Experience in a COVID-19 programme is required
- Travel and overnight between Johannesburg and Witbank as required.
