Health and Safety Officer

We are looking for a responsible Health and Safety Officer to facilitate the re-implementation of the company’s SHE system. You will be required to review the existing manual system and implement it in the company’s ERP system. We operate in an environment where compliance to the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHAct) is required.

Apart from the implementation of a new system, you’ll need to coach and mentor SHE personnel on 3 sites and ensure compliance by those sites. Safety Officer responsibilities include:

- Re-development of OHS policies, procedures, and programs.
- Ensuring all periodic legal requirements are loaded as Job Cards in the ERP system.
- Ensuring that all legal appointments are current and relevant to the various areas of operation.
- Linking all documents to the relevant appointments, legal and operational.
- Setting up all appointments and documentation links to the various job descriptions in the company.
- Conducting monthly site inspections and SHE committee meetings.
- Advice project team on SHE requirements.
- Record and investigate incidents to determine causes and handle worker’s compensation claims.
- Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management.

**Requirements**:

- Proven experience as safety officer
- In depth knowledge of legislation (e.g. OSHA and MHSA) and procedures
- Mine Health and Safety Experience
- Knowledge and experience of Baseline Risk Assessment and HIRA.
- Experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety.
- Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus.
- Outstanding administration and organizational skills.
- Diligent with great attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics.
- BA in safety management, or relevant field is preferred.
- Certificate in occupational health and safety. **Samtrac preferred.**

**Salary**: R35,000.00 per month

License/Certification:

- SAMTRAC Certificate (preferred)
