- PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
- Develops new and revised packaging as required by the Company. Assures that said packaging meets all requirements, Aesthetic and legal. Prepares, disseminates and maintains various pertinent documentation for information and corroborative purposes.- Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible in collaboration with Marketing and Regional Technical Departments to provide and develop new revised packaging in line with the Companies strategic plans.
- Controls the selection of appropriate components, materials, constructions and other related parameters, when developing new products and provides direction.
- Develops components from the concept stage up to the production stage which may involve tooling, proofing and testing (Oversees Full functional and technical testing as is normally done by R and D departments)
- Consults and works with suppliers, plant, engineering, purchasing and other company functions to develop packaging to suit its intended purpose and co’s manufacturing capabilities.
- Develop models, draws and samples.
- Responsible to ensure that, via checks and testing, components meet all requirements, aesthetic, legal, etc.
- Investigates costs, new materials and methods as a member of the value analysis team to ensure co gets the best possible value for money.
- Visits approved or potential supplier’s plants to brief on new development, check progress on existing programmes, help with resolution of any problem etc. Mentors these suppliers and provide technical assistance to ensure quality of products meets co standards.
- Prepares requests and reports related to packaging components (and projects) and their status.
- Directs marketing, production & quality control in resolving packaging problems arising either in the field or in production.
- Participates in any other projects as assigned by superior which have strategic value to Revlon S.A.
- Selects suppliers (Deemed appropriate in terms of technical, quality
- Consult with co US Package Development ensuring packaging changes and value analyses project are implemented locally.
- Ensure latest packaging ingredient legislation is effected on Packaging.
- Controls and oversees all barcoding issues related to packaging.
- Manages cost profile process and ensures accuracy of BOM’S.
- Manage and ensure that all packaging for export product conform to the various legalities and trade and metrology requirements of importing country (eg Australia, Angola and other African countries)
- Consult monthly (via conference calls)with US packaging ,Purchasing and R&D teams to ensure continuity of global synergies are maintained iro costs standards and packaging.
- Control the approval of packaging standards and ensures that these are maintained by suppliers, in accordance with strict co standards.
- Is custodian and Authorizing person for all packaging specifications
- Manage, coaches, trains and appraises NPD Manager, Senior Packaging Technologist, Packaging Technologist and an intern.
- Forms part of the management team who informs Senior management of new development and promotional programmes progress and advises within my capacity on relevant packaging issues to ensure targets are met.
- Attends Trade shows, both local and International to ensure company stays abreast with tendencies as well as technological improvements and advances.
- Analyzes and recommends these technologies to the company to provide a competitive edge for Revlon in terms of innovation and creativity at Management request.
- Responsible for all packaging development issues and decisions with regards to ensuring on time development and promotional ships for all of co’s business activities.
- Manages the NPD/ IDM process through the NPD manager together with all the relevant stake holders (ie Project managers, etc)
- Drives change Management process
- When requested can be tasked with projects deemed pertinent by Management- 5 years + Experience in same or similar role - Packaging/ Engineering & Manufacturing Background - Relationship management capability/ Strong relationship building skills essential. - Business partnering experience-essential-
**Inherent Requirements**
- Education & Experience:
- Degree/Diploma in Packaging Development or equivalent
- Minimum of 10 years Packaging related experience
- Minimum of 5 years in a senior managerial position
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to problem-solve and make decisions
- Excellent people management skills.
- Must have high attention to detail- Highly self-driven individual
