Who are we?

The Group's four business clusters (Sanlam Life and Savings, Sanlam Investment Group, Sanlam Emerging Markets and Santam) house the Group's business operations. The Group Office provides strategic direction and support to the four clusters, assisting them in realising their strategies and meeting their business objectives. The Group Office is responsible for governance and for the Group's centralised functions, which include: Finance, Actuarial and Risk Management, Strategy, Human Resources, Market Development and Sustainability.
What will you do?
Sanlam’s Market Development and Sustainability division’s mission is to raise the impact and visibility of the value the Sanlam Group creates for shareholders, stakeholders, and society across our markets. Part of creating this visibility lies in acting as a partner to stakeholders to create and protect value.
The Stakeholder Management role is to embed the Group’s reputation and stakeholder management framework, policy and build stakeholder management capability across the markets.

The role will be instrumental in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of stakeholder engagement activities for the group.

The Group External Relations function under which this role falls must therefore ensure the successful delivery in the context of a rapidly changing financial environment as well as balance the needs of various stakeholder groups. What will make you successful in this role?
Monitor Issues, such as trust, stakeholder relationships, perceptions about Sanlam and turning this feedback into hard metrics with consequence
Need to continuously innovate the way business is conducted
Be on the pulse of a dynamic and fast changing organisation and varying stakeholder requirements
Periodically revise and maintain Sanlam Group Reputation and Stakeholder Management Framework. This includes regular reviews of the Group Stakeholder Management Policy, annual approval of the Group Reputation and Stakeholder Management Strategy and ongoing capacity building across all business operations to embed the strategy and policy.
Oversee the monitoring and evaluation of stakeholder relationship health, stakeholder trust, and stakeholder perceptions of Sanlam’s performance on reputation drivers and its overall reputation.
Collaborate with clusters to assure relationship building and corporate networking that will enhance the Group’s socio-political license to operate in each of its chosen markets.
Develop a programme to clarify the minimum requirements for planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of stakeholder engagement.
Training the leadership and key conduits (stakeholder category and relationship owners) in stakeholder management best practice.
Manage compliance with Group Stakeholder Management Policy
Responsible for regular reporting on stakeholder issues, relationships, and management thereof to the Sanlam’s leadership, as well as to stakeholders in the interest of transparency and building trust.
Work with Business Risk Management to identify, quantify and track politic trends developments that could pose long-term risk to Sanlam’s strategy execution. Qualification, Knowledge and Experience
Education
Degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Political Studies, Diplomacy, or related field. Postgraduate degree would be advantageous
Relevant certification / accreditation / membership with professional bodies will be an advantage

Experience
Minimum 5 years in Stakeholder management experience
Relevant sector/industry/area of specialisation (understanding emerging markets advantageous)
Experience working in a medium to large organization
Demonstrable networking experience and working with diverse stakeholder groupings in SA and or outside SA will be an added advantage
