This position reports into the Customer Services and Deliver Manager and is based at Cape Town, South Africa.

**What will you do**

This position has the overall responsibility of efficiently and effectively developing the Logistics function, under the supervision of the Logistics & Customer Services Manager. Managing third party logistics service providers as well as the relationship between customer, J&J and LSP’s. To ensure that the most efficient route to market is in place, considering cost versus customer service levels.

**Main Responsibilities**:

- Direct, control and develop the full complement of multi-site logistics facilities/3PL service providers and freight forwarding agents
- Address process gaps and bring local operations at par with international standards. Utilize global best practices.
- Challenge status quo, both externally and internally. Drive improvements and introduce change.
- Ensure that third party logistics service providers perform their duties in accordance with contracts in place.
- Customer engagement Opportunities for collaboration / CIP’s to be identified and explored
- Identify and initiate continuous improvement activities and projects within the Logistics network
- This shall include review of current business processes and practices and driving the attainment of Best-in-Class Logistics & Supply Chain process
- Support the establishment, implementation and roll out of all Logistics/Hub projects with Customer’s and LSPs
- Continually work on improving current processes and implementation of innovative changes
- Ensure that industry understanding is maintained and new initiatives investigated and implemented
- Support the regional teams with negotiation of contracts and price increases with LSP’s for the local business
- Ensure that we maintain a high-quality standard according to the J&J policies (Storage/transport requirements, HS codes, duty rates, INCO terms etc.)
- Maintain robust tracking of freight and duty spend, perform data analysis to spot emerging issues and develop bottom-up budgets based on planned activity related to All distribution and Domestic Inbound spend.
- Guidance and Leadership to the team and be responsible for attracting, developing and exporting high performing employees. Provide coaching, training and inspiration. Drive a high performance and Credo based culture.

**Qualifications**:
**What we are looking for**

**Essential knowledge, skills and core competencies**:

- University degree in Logistics or Engineering and/or alternatively MBA or business qualification
- At least 4-5 years of relevant experience in logistics, operational or strategic Supply Chain roles required within relevant, comparable companies that have large, complex (matrix) organizations.
- Experience in commercial organization with frequent interaction with Marketing, Sales and Finance essential
- Experience in FMCG and/or pharmaceutical industry
- Very good understanding of the entire value chain and its primary activities and an excellent knowledge of the main elements, dynamics and drivers in the supply planning process (inventory planning, network planning, line scheduling and deployment), as well as in the forecasting process.
- Preferably have experience and a clear understanding of the market environment with a focus on the various logistics operating models that are in existence.
- Sustainable track record in identifying, developing and executing international change and process improvement initiatives in the logistics and customer service areas. This includes excellent project and program management skills.
- Well-developed business management capability, and a keen understanding of the business equation and how business and supply chain decisions impact financials (P&L, Balance Sheet). Great financial acumen.
- Excellent leadership and influence skills, able to bring vision to a group and cross departments
