-The main purpose of this position is to provide team leadership in the monitoring of South Africa’s financial regulatory and infrastructural system by benchmarking it against international standards, and to research matters that affect this compliance.
-Detailed Description
Lead and prepare policy proposals, and conduct systemic surveillance and analysis of financial market infrastructures.
- Lead research and policy formulation projects with South African Reserve Bank (SARB) analysts as well as between the SARB and other financial institutions and regulators on topics and solutions dealing with financial system stability and macro-regulatory reforms.
- Lead research and policy formulation projects with SARB analysts as well as between the SARB and other financial institutions and regulators to address any weaknesses within the regulatory system based on the results of external and self-assessment benchmarking exercises, and ensure responses to systemic risks.
- Draft finalised contributions to the Financial Stability Review publication, which is published biannually.
- Contribute towards research and development in macro-regulatory policy to inform the SARB’s position in order to improve the stability and soundness of the financial system.
- Develop and provide opinions on briefs, and compile policy proposals for senior management on emerging regulations.
- Perform project-based performance appraisals for team members, and provide input into the overall performance evaluation process.
- Ensure that the methodologies applied comply with best practice as well as local and international standards, and recommend improvements to methodologies in own area of specialisation.
- Take responsibility for briefings and presentations on financial stability to the senior management of the SARB, the Financial Stability Committee and statutory committees as well as external stakeholders, the media and other public forums.
- Compile and/or provide input into strategic and operational plans as well as the divisional budget and management information reports.
Job Requirements
the minimum of an Honours degree in Finance, Economics, Commercial Law, Accountancy or a related field, or an equivalent qualification; and
- the minimum of eight years of job-related experience.

The following would be an added advantage:

- working effectively in a small and specialised team;
- working in an unstructured environment that requires flexibility and adaptability; and/or
- working independently without constant supervision.
Additional requirements include:

sound knowledge of banking, insurance, securities and the financial system;
- an understanding of the financial products, services and markets that impact on financial stability;
- basic knowledge of macroprudential tools;
- excellent analytical skills;
- proven facilitation and presentation skills;
- excellent interpersonal skills;
- excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
- proficiency in the use of Microsoft (MS) Office products such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
