**Position Purpose / Objective**

Welding is an essential component of the production process in the Astec JHB Factory and a coded welder plays a vital role in ensuring that a quality product is delivered to our customers.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Reading and interpreting of technical drawings.
- Taking or reading measurements to plan the layout and procedures to be followed in terms of components in need of welding.
- Determining the appropriate welding equipment or method to be used based on the unique requirements per job.
- Setting up components for welding according to specifications.
- Welding components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead).
- Welding according to Astec JHB and customer specifications.
- Cleaning and degreasing of components to be welded using grinders/solvents.
- Examining work pieces for defects.
- Measuring of work pieces to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Compliance with housekeeping as well as health and safety requirements including:

- Ensuring that the work area is cleaned daily.
- **Participate in Lean, 5S and Safety culture**.
- Performing a daily inspection on welding equipment to ensure that it is safe and functional.
- Monitoring the work piece for appropriate usage and temperature.
- Monitoring the work environment for hazards.
- Maintaining healthy ventilation levels in the welding area to avoid particle or gas inhalation.
- Ensuring that all welding equipment is in a condition that does not compromise safety.
- Preparing the work area for gauging, setting up the machine and using the correct gauging electrode suitable to the work piece.
- Scanning the route pack and signing off operations.
- Scanning of jobs on the system.
- Operating angle grinders to prepare components for welding.
- Fettling components after welding.
- You will be required to perform any additional and lawful duties that might not be listed in the job description, but which falls within your grade or grades below as and when required.
- Ensuring compliance to QMS standards.

**Minimum Requirements**
Must be a coded welder (General and Structural)

Completed a formal welding course by a recognized welding

**Qualifications**: institution.

A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the use of various welding equipment and techniques.

**Experience**:
Experience in both Arc Welding and CO₂

Reliable individual with sober habits.
**Character**:
Attention to details.

**Computer Proficiency**

The ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

**Other**:The ability to read and interpret technical drawings.

Willingness to work shifts.

**Job Type**: Temporary
Contract length: 6 months

**Salary**: R93.00 - R140.00 per hour
