**FINANCE ASSISTANT / BOOKKEEPER - JOB DESCRIPTION**

Medium sized entrepreneurial group of companies is seeking a Financial Assistant / Bookkeeper to provide the company with a full financial function, maintain a strict code of confidentiality pertaining to the finances of the group.

**The Financial Controller is responsible for**:

- Maintain accurate accounting records;
- Perform all general ledger and sub-ledger reconciliations;
- Prepare and maintain budgets;
- Review payment run preparation;
- Oversee the trade receivables function to ensure no long outstanding debts exist;
- Oversee the trade payables function to ensure no overdue payments exist;
- Perform expenditure control;
- Assist with various operational reporting mechanisms;
- Maintain bank balances and optimise interest earned on favourable balances;
- Review and approve bank reconciliations;
- Review and trade receivable reconciliations;
- Review and approve trade payable reconciliations;
- Prepare management accounts;
- Prepare accurate cash flow forecasts;
- Perform the reconciliation and submission of VAT;
- Review and approve journals;
- Prepare audit files;
- Communicate month end deadlines regular to all stakeholders;
**Skills and Competencies**:
Experience
- Experience working in a management accounting and management reporting role or function
- Managing the outputs of a limited number of direct reports

- Excellent accounting skills, including understanding finance systems and standardised processes, with good financial modelling skills

**Desired Qualifications**:

- Computer literacy including advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience with standard accounting software packages
- Strong verbal and written communications skills
- Detail oriented and organized; Strong planning and prioritization abilities
- Fluent English
- Must maintain confidentiality and discretion in all aspects and be comfortable with flexible working schedule to meet the needs of the Company and its executives

**Salary**: R10,000.00 - R25,000.00 per month

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Johannesburg, Gauteng: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (required)

**Education**:

- Bachelors (preferred)

**Experience**:

- Bookkeeping / Accounting: 2 years (preferred)
