**Role summary**
- The Trauma Program Manager TPM) is fundamental to the development implementation, evaluation of the Trauma Programme and emergency care.

The primary responsibility of the TPM to ensure patients are receiving the best care possible achieved by compilation and analysis of data, policy review, and continuous quality improvement initiatives. The TPM must have a deep understanding of trauma theory and its impact on human behaviours. The Trauma Programme Manager (TPM) will have a direct reporting line to the General Manager Emergency and Trauma and HGM and work in close collaboration with the Emergency department Manager, Hospital Trauma Director, the Regional Management Team and hospital management team. The incumbent will also be responsible for the organisation of services and systems necessary for the person-centred multidisciplinary approach for the emergency and trauma patient.

The TPM will be responsible for the implementation of trauma
- informed practices In particular, the TPM assumes day-to-day responsibility for process and performance improvement activities, including clinical, educational, outreach, research and administrative activities of the emergency, trauma and burns service.
- The TPM will be responsible for the allocated Level II and Level III Emergency Departments to ensure trauma system implementation and quality driven trauma care in the region.
- The TPM should be able to function in a multidisciplinary team within the hospital, and the Trauma Program, to ensure optimal collaboration as a team player.

**Education**
- A relevant medical qualification Trauma / trained Registered nurse or Advanced life support paramedic.
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council or Health Professions Council of South Africa.

Technical expert in the emergency and trauma field.

**Work experience**

A minimum of 3 years clinical experience in the care of a trauma and emergency patient. Must be trauma trained if nursing.

Must show evidence of continuing education in the discipline of trauma and emergency care. Computer literacy is essential.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a managerial position is desirable

Demonstrate an understanding of business and operational program requirements. Demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of strategic, and business-related activities.

Key work output and accountabilities

**Responsibilities**
- The TPM works closely with any ancillary staff needed to fulfil the requirements of the trauma and emergency system.
- the TPM to assume the day-to-day responsibilities for process and performance improvement activities as applied to nursing and other ancillary personnel and should assist the Trauma Director (T D) in carrying out the same functions for the doctors to ensure high-quality trauma and emergency care.
- The TPM will be responsible for the coordination of health care services for all trauma patients during acute and definitive care periods.
- The TPM will assist the organized multi-disciplinary trauma team to develop a philosophy of care consistent with providing quality service, including the development of educational activities related to the care of critically ill and injured patients.

- The TPM will be responsible for ensuring they participate in all activities related to the Trauma and Emergency Department which may include but is not restricted to:

- Trauma on call for the management of all trauma and emergency related activities.
