**Job Description**:
- The metallurgist shall adhere to the following:
- Take control over data processing, including reporting of the test work according to company guidelines. Report writing must be on a high standard and grammatically correct.
- Take responsibility for the monitoring of consumables and expenses and coordinating this information with the divisional manager.
- Evaluate results of conducted test work, interpret it accordingly, and also assist with trouble shooting.
- Manage, train and direct subordinates in all matters related to quality, test work methodologies, safety and time management.
- Liaise with Clients regularly and in a professional manner.
- Write-up and cost metallurgical test work programs that meet the Clients’ requirements.
- Participate in project decision making during the test work program.
- Assist with monthly invoicing for test work completed.
- Setting up and running Flotation test work projects and other associated Minerals Processing Projects. This may include work in other metallurgy departments.
- To check that work is scheduled and carried out timeously and that relevant quality benchmarks are maintained i.e. log sheets are captured and filed properly.
- Meet company targets with respect to turnover and quality i.e. stick to schedules.
- Take responsibility to effectively use equipment and the facilities in an appropriate manner.
- Always adhere to good housekeeping i.e. keep the lab and office space tidy.
- Assist with the development, documentation and maintenance of methods and competency modules.
- Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
- Perform any other reasonable task(s) as assigned by direct line manager.
**Qualifications**:
- B.Sc. or B.Eng. in Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Flotation and Mineral Processing i.e. comminution, physical separation and gravity separation). Preference is given to flotation experience.

Compliance & Authority

- Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.
- Assist with production coordination with specific collaboration with the AA and ICP departments.
- Assist with the training and verification of Fire-Assay staff.
- Check on daily staff attendance and address any problem timeously and pro-actively.
- Ensure that required consumables and inventory stock levels/PPE for Fire Assay are monitored and maintained for daily, night & weekend shifts.
- Ensure that pot re-cycling is performed daily, night shift and weekends.
- Ensure the maintenance of the laboratory instruments and apparatus is performed and maintain equipment records, logbooks, files and registers accordingly.
- Any person has the right to refuse to perform work that may damage the environment in an imminent and serious way and to report such a situation.
