**Introduction**:
TRACKER requires the services of a Data Scientist to help design, analyze, develop and deliver sophisticated large scale data processing, data analysis, data science and machine learning solutions and products in a telematics engineering environment. The Data Scientist will be required to utilize relevant full-stack large scale data processing and data science software development experience with in-cloud mobile/accelerometer signal and data processing.

**Job description**:

- Deliver data processing, data analysis, data science and related software and projects on time, in budget, with the desired functionality, at the defined quality level in a sustainable way.
- Develop innovative and sophisticated but sustainable and producible Data Processing/ML/Data Scientific solutions based on telemetry data/telematics data/mobile data/other sensor data sources.
- Meet best practice criteria in the testing of software
- Complete work orders in appropriate timescales.
- Maintain systems without introducing new defects.
- Enhance systems to support and move to new technologies.
- Share knowledge with development and support teams.
- Document systems, including enhancements to facilitate knowledge sharing.
- Where relevant and ad-hoc, guide and coach Junior Developers.
- Ensure that time is spent on personal training and development that is aligned with job profile
- Assist in defining best practice for Tracker’s Data Science development processes and standards.
- Ensure that the approved processes and standards are followed.
- Effective use of development toolset.
- Follow department development standards

**Minimum requirements**:

- BEng (4 years) (completed) or BEng Honours (Completed) or MEng (completed or in progress) or
- BSc (Comp Sci) Honours (completed) or MSc (Comp Sci) (completed or in progress).
- Engineering degree with relevant full-stack software, systems and data development experience:

- Electronic / Electrical or Computer or Systems or related Engineering
- Computer Science degree with relevant **full-stack software, systems and data development experience**
- Computer Science, in combination with strong Statistical, Mathematical and Application Development

**Non-negotiable skills/experience**
- Minimum experience times (could be overlapping):

- Minimum 3 years hands-on software development experience in an Engineering/Software Development environment.
- Minimum 2 years development experience with technologies below
- 1-yea**r** development experience in Telematics/IoT/Telemetry related development.
- Full-stack software development experience in a data processing / data rich environment.
- Analysis/Data Science research addressing design, planning, scoping, execution, analysis, delivery, roll-out of results.
- Engineering development projects with a strong focus on engineering product development and delivery.
- Minimum exposure to 1 industry project where full responsibility for all work, from unprocessed (preferably sensor) data gathering, to analysis design, to software design, to software development, to machine learning/optimisation approach, to outcome culminating in (formal or informal) publication of results and product deployment.
- Any relevant research projects/Master’s thesis/academic publication might substitute here, pending evaluation.
- University level mathematics and statistics

**Non-negotiable technology development experience**:
Working experience (as per above minimum exposure) with the following technology groups:

- Python
- SQL and Databases
- C#/C /Objective-C/C/Java/Scala/Swift
- Advanced Linux
- DataBricks
- MatLab and/or R
- Spark and/or Hadoop (or MS Azure versions) and/or Yarn (or MS Azure versions)
- Azure and/or AWS and/or Google-Cloud development
- ESRI/ArcGis/Other GIS processing technologies
- IoT/Telemetry sensor system development
- Back-end and/or web development
- Mobile-app development
**Additional Skills and Experiences**
- Best practice software engineering experience important (version control, test cases, etc.)
- Cloud development experience strong advantage.
- Experience with concepts such as FFT, Noise filtering, etc.
- Experience with concepts such as hyper-parameter optimization, multi-model comparison, etc.
- Application statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, distribution matching, etc.
- Operational database or datastore development experience a strong advantage.
