The internship will be an opportunity to be trained to become an occupational health medical technician. Over three years you will receive formal training in audiometry testing, vision screening and spirometry testing this includes training on accurate records maintenance, and providing education and support to patients.

**Key Roles & Responsibilities in Occupational Health Care**

**Audiometric Testing Involves**
- Conducting audiometric testing to assess employees' hearing abilities.
- Operating audiometers to administer hearing tests per protocols.
- Documenting test results accurately and maintaining detailed records of employees' hearing health over time.
- Providing guidance and education to employees regarding hearing conservation measures and the proper use of hearing protection devices.

**Spirometry Testing**:

- Performing spirometry testing to assess employees' lung function and respiratory health.
- Operating spirometers to measure lung capacity, airflow, and other respiratory parameters.
- Ensuring that spirometry tests are conducted following established procedures and quality assurance standards.
- Interpreting test results and identifying abnormalities that may indicate respiratory issues or occupational lung diseases.
- Collaborating with healthcare professionals, such as occupational physicians or respiratory therapists, to provide follow-up care and recommendations for employees with abnormal spirometry results.

**Equipment Maintenance**:

- Maintaining and calibrating audiometric and spirometry equipment to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
- Troubleshooting equipment issues and performing routine maintenance tasks as needed.
- Keeping detailed records of equipment maintenance and calibration activities to comply with regulatory requirements and quality assurance standards.

**Health Surveillance Programs**:

- Assisting in the development and implementation of health surveillance programs to monitor employees' exposure to occupational hazards, such as noise or airborne contaminants.
- Participating in periodic health assessments and screenings to identify early signs of occupational illnesses or injuries.

**Documentation and Reporting**:

- Documenting all test results, observations, and recommendations accurately and comprehensively.
- Generating reports summarizing findings from audiometric and spirometry testing for management review and regulatory compliance purposes.
- Ensuring that all documentation complies with relevant privacy and confidentiality regulations to protect employees' health information.

**Customer Service Orientation**
- To provide a prompt, efficient and personalised service to clients

**Minimum Required Qualifications* No exceptions**

v Grade 12 and willing to pursue a career in occupational health.

v Have the ability to communicate with customers/ patients in English (other languages advantageous).

v Code 10 Drivers License

v Vision, Audio and Spiro qualifications (will be advantageous not a requirement).
