-The main purpose of this position to participate in the implementation of the compliance and operational risk management framework for the Financial Markets Department (FMD) and conduct continued monitoring across business units.
-Detailed Description
Assess and maintain FMD’s compliance and internal control universe by identifying and prioritising all regulatory requirements and internal policies on an ongoing basis.
- Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of the compliance and operational risk management of FMD.
- Monitor compliance with investment guidelines, regulatory requirements, policies and internal controls.
- Conduct research, remain abreast of the status of all compliance and operational risk activities and identify trends.
- Analyse, interpret and collate management information for escalation to the line manager.
- Assist in the design and development of effective compliance and operational risk training and awareness programmes.
- Conduct and coordinate training and awareness campaigns on the compliance obligations of management and other staff members.
- Conduct research on compliance and operational risk and make recommendations based on the findings and best practices.
- Support on-the-job training and knowledge transfer for junior analysts.
- Develop and maintain business relationships with experts within the financial markets industry.
Job Requirements
an Honours degree in Law, Auditing, Accounting and/or Risk Management, or an equivalent qualification; and
- a minimum of five to eight years’ job-related experience in risk management in the financial services industry.

Additional requirements include:

- sound knowledge of the financial markets environment (e.g. the Treasury and asset management environments);
- knowledge of Cura’s risk management software (CURA), Structured Query Language (SQL) and TeamCentral;
- analytical skills;
- above average skills in interpersonal relations;
- report writing skills;
- stakeholder management and communication skills;
- ability to pay attention to detail; and
- knowledge of modern risk management methodology.

The following would be an added advantage:

- a certificate in Compliance and Risk Management;
- completed STRATE Compliance Officer examinations; and
- completed JSE Compliance Officer examinations.
