DevOps Tech Lead

**Responsibilities**:

- **Core hours are 08:00 to 18:00, Monday to Friday, working remotely**
- **You will also be required to work on-call, roughly 1 in 4 weekends**
- **You will be leading global 24/7 DevOps teams based in South Africa, North America and Australia**
- **Oversee the DevOps/SysAdmin department, including Servers, Services, Network and Internal systems**
- **Report on the health of the environment, identify risk and improvement areas, plan and implement changes to benefit the company and reduce risk**
- **Keep abreast of latest technology trends and opportunities, with the intention of benefiting the company**
- **Work closely with team members to meet timelines and targets on new and existing projects and initiatives**
- **Design and implement processes and procedures relevant to the DevOps/SysAdmin department**
- **Collaboratively plan, design, implement, monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize various systems and solutions**
- **Assist with the design, implementation and management of connectivity, network infrastructure, security, and cloud solutions**
- **Ensure Data Security: managing anti-virus, software patching, managing all threats and incidents**
- **Handling of escalated service tickets. Lending L2 & L3 technical support to the customer success team**
- **Maintain and improve the overall security of our systems by proactively monitoring and managing events, alerts and make recommendations for process improvement**
- **Experience in building and implementing automation tools**
- **Provide timely and professional assistance to the team when needed**
- **Perform Disaster Recovery tests, document the results and find improvements that can be made**
- **Ensure that all recovery time targets and objectives are aligned with business needs and weighed against cost of implementation**
- **Work with Information Security to ensure implementation of security, governance and compliance tools and controls**
- **Ensure systems are regularly patched and upgraded**
- **Ensure critical and high severity security patches and upgrades are installed as soon as they are available**
- **Participate in audits and assessments**
- **Build annual budgets and monitor spending against budget throughout the year**
- **Ensure that cost per infrastructure system and environment can be determined and reported on to business**
- **Manage own professional and self-development**

**Relevant Qualification**:

- **Grade 12 or equivalent (essential)**
- **Related tertiary qualification (desired)**
- **5+ years experience in a related field, for example DevOps, Software Development, System Administration (essential)**
- **AWS qualifications (desired)**
- **Kubernetes qualification (desired)**
- **Knowledge of agile methodologies**
- **Knowledge of cloud technologies**
- **Knowledge of DevOps standards and technologies**
- **Knowledge of networking**
- **Knowledge of securing infrastructure**
- **Knowledge of database administration**

**Tech stack**:

- **SaltStack (can learn on the job)**
- **MySQL/Percona (must know)**
- **Nginx (must know)**
- **Ruby (ability to read code)**
- **Wazuh/OSSEC/ELK (can learn on the job)**
- **Kubernetes (must know)**

**Competencies**:

- **Experience designing, orchestrating, and deploying container-based solutions using Docker or Kubernetes**
- **Scripting experience: Shell (Bash), Python, etc.**
- **Ability to manage internal and external projects from inception to completion**
- **Experience implementing projects and working with vendors**
- **Attention to detail, ability to think logically and demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving skills**
- **Extensive technical knowledge across various technologies**
- **Excellent oral and written communication skills**
- **Organisational and administrative skills**
- **Excellent people skills**
- **Good understanding and familiarity with cloud infrastructure, AWS an advantage**
- **Experience with Database management: MySQL and Postgres**
- **Experience with Logging and security hardening; system documentation and designs.**
- **Deep understanding of security and privacy by design principles**
- **Deep understanding of DevOps principles, processes and tools**
- **Architect DevOps solutions by leading the DevOps team**
- **Ensure all infrastructure is managed with Infrastructure as Code or similar**
- **Build staging and development environments when needed**
- **Ensure backups are regularly made and have automated backup recovery testing
