Furnace Operator

An opportunity exists in the toughening department for an assertive - self-motivated individual, as a furnace Operator in a glass processing company based in Brackenfell.

**Requirements**:

- Grade 12 and an individual studying towards mechanical engineering
- Glass Knowledge highly advantageous
- 3-5 Years’ experience in Manufacturing facility
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills
- Troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
- Physically able & fit to perform the function
- Computer literate
- Willing & able to work overtime & weekends and shifts as required
- Technical knowledge
- Own reliable Transport

**Responsibilities (not inclusive)**:

- Operate the furnace
- Plan processing and manufacture to achieve highest efficiency, in accordance with Production Plan
- Plan the processing and manufacture taking constraints into consideration
- Measure hourly throughputs against targets.
- Race through replacements for that day, in accordance with Production Plan
- Inspect quality of incoming product and reject if required.
- If quality of incoming product meets standards, place into Production process
- Inspect outgoing product and sign over to customer BU
- Measure poor quality as a percentage and look at and improve ways to reduce this figure
- Understand constraints on throughput
- Actively find ways of reducing these constraints and discuss with BU Leader
- Understand the unit’s inefficiencies and find ways of improving these.
- Housekeeping and Safety
- Ensure the unit operates safely and maintains good housekeeping
- Perform inspections of machinery and equipment in accordance with inspection and maintenance schedules
- Carry out Operator Maintenance of machinery and equipment as required and in accordance with maintenance schedules
- Undertake training where required
- Learn how to operate all machinery and equipment at relevant BU’s
- Assist in developing and implementing processes to promote Production efficiency and quality
- Provide training to colleagues/team where required

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Brackenfell, Western Cape: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (required)

**Education**:

- High School (matric) (required)

**Experience**:

- Manufacturing: 3 years (required)
