Clinical Psychologist

ACCOUNTABILITY
- To the ethical and clinical standards laid down by the Health Professionals Council of South Africa
- To the criteria stipulated by the Board of Healthcare Funders of Southern Africa
- To the Head of Psychology and Therapeutic Services at Riverview Manor

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Thorough clinical assessment of individual patients
- Drawing up a multi-axial diagnosis according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders - Fifth Edition (DSM - V)
- Motivating medical aid benefits
- Act as case manager, co-ordinating the overall treatment and therapy of patients
- Individual psychotherapy to designated patients
- Facilitating group psychotherapy to designated patients
- Facilitating group psychotherapy (structured and unstructured groups)
- To arrange and conduct marital / family and relationship therapy where indicated
- To consult with internal medical doctor and psychiatrist concerning the medical treatment of patients
- To communicate and consult with professionals who have referred patients to Riverview Manor (with consent from clients).
- To attend daily clinical meetings to discuss the progress of individual patients
- To provide the inter-disciplinary team with significant feedback concerning patient progress
- To arrange for patients to be seen by dietician of spiritual counsellor
- To prepare patients for discharge
- To set up an after care plan
- To arrange for patients to be transferred to other facilities
- To write comprehensive psychological reports about each patient’s progress and treatment outcome at Riverview Manor and to arrange for these reports to be sent to clinicians who referred the patient to Riverview Manor, or to those who will be involved in the further management of the patient
- To be on 24 hour standby for emergencies every fourth week
- To be an active member of the management team at Riverview Manor
- To attend Psychology and Programme meetings once a month
- To see outpatients from the community for individual psychotherapy - (when not in direct conflict with requirements for inpatients)
- To assist with COHSASA compliancy
