- Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience- A National Diploma in Maritime Studies
- Deck Officer Certificate of Competency (valid as per STCW 1978, as amended) or higher.
- A minimum of two (2) years of relevant industry (seagoing) experience in the merchant navy (as an officer)
- Or Offshore experience (Oil & Gas) will be recognised as seagoing experience (As an officer, safety officer or OIM)
- OPITO BOSIET (FOET) or equivalent GWO Qualification would be beneficial.
- Fast Rescue Boat training - would be beneficial.
- Rescue Swimmer or diving qualification (PADI)
- experience with accreditation processes e.g. SAMSA, OPITO, GWO
- Audit experience
- ISO, SAMSA, SANS, SABS
- Experience with TRANSAS or Wartsila simulation systems
- A teaching and learning background would be beneficial.
- Assessor level Certification would be beneficial.
- Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities- Instructing and assessing in short learning programmes (SLP’s) offered by the CPUT: Survival Centre, in particular GMDSS, PST, PSSR, SCRB, ENS and Offshore Safety & Survival training courses.
- General course preparation and administration,
- Assist with safety management & quality assurance,
- Assist with accreditation of SAMSA & OPITO courses.
- Assist with the maintenance of lifeboats, life rafts, and CPUT: SC facilities.
- Assist with part-time, evening courses.
- As is reasonably required by the HOD: Maritime Studies & Survival Centre.
- Competencies- Language proficiency: English (lingua-franca of the sea) and any other official language,
- Sound interpersonal skills,
- The ability to work with semi-literate and semi-numerate learners, where applicable
- Good planning & organizational ability,
- Computer literacy, e.g., Microsoft Office suite (inclusive of PowerPoint)
- Competent Swimmer
- Proficient in small boat handling
- To be able to cope under pressure.
- Knowledge/experience of working offshore (Oil & gas) with helicopter operational experience.
