**Introduction**Role Purpose**
- A junior underwriter performs support function to the medical underwriters and ensures provision of clinical analysis critical for decision-making towards achievement of business objectives, using existing policies, procedures, and guidelines.**Requirements**:
**Experience and Qualifications**
- Qualification in Health Sciences or equivalent is an advantage.
- Must have at least 3 years’ experience as an Underwriting Service Consultant/Administrator.
- Excellent underwriting administration knowledge and skill.
- Be knowledgeable on various workflow systems, in-depth knowledge of Orbit Portal and AS400 would be an advantage.

**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Gathering and preparing the clinical and medical evidence based on medical information received for the employee of the group, by ensuring all medicals have been received and any previous covers/decisions have been noted on the member summary.
- Manage workflows by returning any incorrect or incomplete workflows to the service area and preparing the relevant cases for assessment.
- Understand the Underwriting Matrix and Astute system to advise on medical evidence required for underwriting impaired lives.
- Liaising with doctors/ brokers/ employees and members with regards to underwriting decisions made.
- Liaising with Reinsurers, the Installations, Operations and Pricing teams.
- Following the relevant guidelines/ protocols/ legislation and codes of conduct.
- Be able to translate risk into an extra mortality/morbidity loading.
- Picking up on admin-related risk trends and making suggestions in terms of managing the trends.
- Participating in cross-functional teams to develop new or enhance systems/ processes/ policies

- **Interpersonal Skills**:Good communication and interpersonal skills due to interaction with various stakeholders including brokers, members, and the internal teams.
- **Time-management Skills**:Must be able to work independently when required and manage time efficiently.
- **Written and Verbal Communication**:Communication must always be clear and professional.
