The Plant Educator is a role which serves as a core link between BMW and NUMSA national & regional education teams. This role forms part of the national team of Plant Educators within the OEMs and works very closely with the Shopstewards Committee.

The incumbent is a responsible to:

- Act within the mandate and scope of the BMW Training Dept. and Union structures.
- Familiarise themselves with the Company Policies and Procedures.
- Coordination, development and delivery of annual agreed education and training programme areas as identified by Company and NUMSA.

**Education Development** - contributes to the overall development and strategic direction of the NUMSA’s workplace membership based education programmes through offering innovation and development of ideas for annual programme planning.

**Programme Administration** - provides administrative support for effective running of education & training programmes. These tasks may include practical arrangements for workshops, including arranging suitable and economic venues, coordinating external facilitators if required, timeous mobilizing for attendance, coordinating materials, maintaining registers, reporting on workshops conducted and maintaining records or files education conducted.

**Membership Education -** coordinates programmes, workshops, indabas and course for membership and workers in general on agreed training interventions with the Company and as mandated by NUMSA.

These have the express aim of building NUMSA’s shopfloor capacity. These may also include ad-hoc education interventions determined by need and as per agreed frequency with the Company.

Management of education programmes including;
- Keeping up to date with relevant readings, reports, legislation, policies, procedures, critiques and engaging in discussions and debates.
- Building strategic relationships between the various parties involved.
- Design, develop/adapt and produce education materials.
- Developing, preparing and facilitating appropriate meetings and workshops with relevant groups.
- Coaching and mentoring members on programmes where required.
- Managing available resources availed for education and training interventions.
- Developing appropriate approaches as well as implementing recording and reporting programmes.

The programmes will include but not limited to:

- Assist in the coordination of the WSP and ATR.
- Assist with monthly reporting on legislative and business specific requirements, e.g. Zone meetings.
- Understanding Company Policies, Procedures and Collective Agreements
- New Associates induction.
- Understanding of NUMSA constitution, policies and resolutions.
- Educate associates on the roles and responsibilities of the Trade Union and Shopstewards.

On Workplace Skills Planning

The Plant Educator plays a role in interacting with Shopstewards who are designated and representing the Union at the Skills Development and Employment Equity committees to highlight on employment related equity matters and training and development matters. Working closely with the Shopstewards to assist with WSP and ATR, including
- identifying training and development gaps.
- communication with Talent Management on all worker training and equity related matters.
- assisting with the planning and implementation of new education and training programmes.
- Play an active role in building good relationships/partnerships through networking with other OEMs and union education structures. This may include institutions of Higher Learning in the region who can assist with relevant programmes.

**Qualification**:
**Educational Background / Professional Knowledge and Experience / Other Skills**
- Grade 12 National Certificate/Matric
- Relevant Tertiary Qualification will be advantageous
- Worker education and facilitation skills.
- Knowledge of workplace policies and labour legislation.
- Must have a sound and intimate knowledge and understanding of Union structures.
- Possess educator skills and have experience in delivering education and training.
- Coordination and administrative skills would be advantageous.
- Understanding of NUMSA constitution, policies and resolutions.
- Knowledge of the National Bargaining Forum requirements
