The Transacting Specialist is responsible for monitoring the performance of loans and equity portfolios, covenant monitoring and compliance and the management of relationships with clients and stakeholders in South Africa and the Rest of Africa.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**1. **Loan and Equity Portfolio Performance Monitoring**
- Monitor the performance of loans and equity investments as per agreements and provide regular reports to Group Executive: Transacting and other key stakeholders on the performance.
- Monitor defaulters, creditors and maintain good solid relationships with existing DBSA clients.
- Conduct project audits and monitor significant developments that can potentially influence the bankability of projects for the DBSA.
- Facilitate strong investment performance and value addition in equity investments.
- Draft, review and submit portfolio reports to DBSA’s committees.
- Undertake continuous research and provide recommendations on significant developments, emerging opportunities and challenges in areas of responsibility.
- Identify new equity investment opportunities in key strategic sectors / investment themes and evaluate the feasibility of investment opportunities / project transactions with a view to ensuring that they are commercially sound prospects for equity financing and are aligned to the DBSA’s strategy and mandate.

**2. **Covenant Compliance**
- Maintain all credit files to ensure proper adherence to covenants in agreements to minimize and manage the risk to the Division.
- Capture post transaction conclusions/ debriefs for continuous improvement and ensuring successful delivery of deals.
- Manage all risk aspects of the continent-wide financing delivery function, in terms of ensuring appropriate structuring of investment risks and on-going mitigations of operations-related risks.
- Ensure sound financial capital management through assuming responsibility for stewardship over the capital under management, and as well as efficient utilization of financial resources.

**3. **Stakeholder Management**
- Build and manage relationships with key internal and external clients to increase the Bank’s reach, equity investments and loans transactions.
- Provide reports and information to potential clients and document the same to provide information on customer requirements/ areas of interest.
- Engage with financial intermediaries to offer new products and access new markets that help further DBSA’s mission.
- Identify clients’ pain points together with the front-line divisions and coordinate DBSA’s solution offerings to address them.
- Network and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to further develop specific investment opportunities.

Undertake other tasks as assigned by the line manager, from time to time.

**Key Measurements of Outputs**

1. Growth rate in assets of loan and equity book

2. Quality of loan and equity book

3. Management of client relationships and key stakeholders

4. Quality progress reports

5. Annual disbursements, commitments and approvals (value and number of equity transactions)

6. % of loan and equity book in priority geographies and sectors.

7. Management of Budget including operational expenses.

8. Quality of signed agreements / mandates.

**Expertise & Technical Competencies**:
**Minimum Requirements**
- A post graduate qualification or equivalent in Business, Finance, Legal, Engineering, or Economics.
- A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in portfolio monitoring of loans and equity investments
- Experience in managing loan performance book of a DFI.
- Experience with working with deal execution teams.
- Experience in presenting to Senior Executives and Management Teams to ensure compliance to contract management in order to prevent risk of non-performance.
- Experience in doing business across Africa.
- Experience in Financial institution and or DFIs

- Creates procedures to articulate the nature of problems and to identify and weigh alternate solutions.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of solutions using approaches tailored to the situation.
