**Core Objectives**
- The role includes general building, DIY and maintenance including, but not limited to, basic carpentry, plumbing, replacement of tiling and flooring, painting and waterproofing
- The role also requires you to carry out general garden maintenance work.

**Main Tasks/Duties and Responsibilities**
- Day to day responsibilities:

- replacement, repair and maintenance of building fixtures and fittings
- general plumbing including washers, taps, unblocking toilets, unblocking stacks, installing new sinks, urinals and toilets, pipework (copper or PVC)
- general carpentry such as hanging doors, new locks, architraves, window frames, boxing in, assembling furniture, easing and adjusting windows, replacing handles and similar hardware
- general tiling - floors and walls
- flooring work, such as carpet tiles, sreeding, vinyl, laminate floors, etc.
- general painting, interior and exterior
- basic electrical maintenance
- some projects require care and maintenance of the client's gardens
- identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair; to ensure compliance with agreed codes, law, working practices and health and safety
- liaising with the owner and other team members and performing jobs as and when they are required
- carry out planned tasks in accordance with contract requirements
- carry out tasks within specified time limits
- ensure compliance to applicable codes, legislation and procedures including health and safety
- report to owner
- immediately report problems/failures that may impact on the organisation and/or its clients/customers to the owner
- meet your targets and contribute to those of the team as a whole
- contribute towards the efficient running of the team

**Hours**
- Your usual hours will be from 8am to 5pm. However you will be expected to work as and when necessary to meet the needs of the team and your targets. This means some Saturdays too.
- Your job will involve traveling to sites with the teams.
- Meet up is at the office. Some days it will be expected to meet at pickup points. This will be discussed in detail and in advance.

**Secondary Tasks/Duties**
- The role is part of the whole organisation team and as such requires you to perform such reasonable tasks that are required, as and when necessary, to maintain, promote, develop and expand the business of our organisation and its interests generally.
- You must carry out your duties to the best of your ability, having consideration for the needs of your colleagues, the organisation and its clients/customers.
- You must obey all lawful and reasonable orders given to you and comply with the organisation’s rules, procedures and policies.

**Responsibilities**

**Equipment**
- You are responsible for the equipment provided to you for use in your job role. This means you must ensure that equipment is used in accordance with any training provided, the organisation’s policies and procedures and the law and using, where applicable.
- You are responsible for ensuring that the equipment you use is maintained and can be used/operated at all times. -You are also responsible to make sure equipment used for the day to be checked in and out.

**Essential Abilities/ Competencies of this job role**
- You need:

- experience in this type of job role, minimum 2 years
- knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials common to the environment
- to demonstrate knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations applicable to this role
- skills in general DIY and maintenance
- experience and using general machinery
common to the environment
- to be friendly and approachable
- to understand and deliver good customer service
- good attention to detail
- demonstrable time management and project management skills
- a driver's licence will be advantageous
- speaking Afrikaans, German and one of our official languages will be advantageous
- You need to have and maintain the knowledge and technical skills that are necessary to perform your job role to comply with the requirements of the organisation and any applicable rules, regulations and with any law which applies to your job role.

**Special Working Conditions**
- Salary will be discussed and determined by your knowledge of the work, experience and qualifications.

**Experience**:

- Handyman: 2 years (required)

**Language**:

- German (preferred)
- One other official language (preferred)
- Afrikaans or English (required)

License/Certification:

- Driver's license (preferred)
