Job description

**Develop Lesson Plans and Instruct Foundation Phase Learners in a Team-teaching environment**

**Develop, Nurture and Assess Learner Performance, Self-Regulation and Behavior**

Foundation phase teachers use keen observation skills to develop and assess each learner in the classroom. They chart behaviors and develop self-regulation and executive functioning programs to handle disruptive or unruly behavior. You will need to also assess the progress of young learners' understanding of topics and their progress to determine if they are learning at an acceptable level and pace.

**Oversee and Attend Meetings**

You will also have several responsibilities outside the classroom as well. This will include developing a healthy learning community where parents are part of their young child's education program and day at school. You will have to contact parents with concerns or issues relating to their child, hold teacher-parent meetings as needed, submit reports to administrators, and attend staff meetings to learn of any school policy changes, teaching approaches, or other relevant topics.

**Required Skills**:
Strong verbal and written communication, motivational, organisational, and leadership skills are among those most essential to succeed as a foundation phase teacher. In this role, you will need to be energetic and enthusiastic, displaying a high level of tolerance, patience, and support - in the foundation phase the nurturing aspect of teaching is critical to enable young children to be receptive to meaningful learning and development. You must be an exceptional listener and enjoy working with children. You must be comfortable interacting with those of various backgrounds, cultures and professional levels, from parents to school administrators. Besides these important abilities, you should possess the following skills:

- Creating exciting and engaging lesson plans and assisting in curriculum development
- Completing learner progress reports
- Managing classroom activities and learner behavior
- Communicating with parents and guardians
- Attending professional development classes and programs
**Tools of the Trade**

Success as a foundation phase educator at Jacaranda College depends on the teacher's ability to utilise several tools of the trade. For you to be comfortable and to accomplish your tasks it will be helpful to have knowledge of the following:

- Educational technology and teaching software - from laptops to streaming to introduction to the learning of modern technologies (including robotics and coding), our classrooms are immersed in educational technology to enhance the learning experience

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: R10,000.00 - R20,000.00 per month
