**Vacancy: Mechanical Artisan**

**Purpose of the Job**
- The purpose of this role is to perform inspections, maintenance, installations, restoration, and repairs of mechanical equipment across the fabrication, fitting and testing plants.
- Supports operations to ensure that operational efficiencies, volume, quality, and productivity targets are met
- Performs mechanical isolations and applies for permit to work
- Understands and puts into practice all codes, standards, and procedures for safe work
- Carries out mechanical component inspections and reports on performance issues
- Documents repair and inspection activities to ensure accurate record keeping
- Ensure all maintenance activities are performed to set quality standards without rework or abnormal overtime
- Use correct tools to carry out planned preventative maintenance.
- Supervises mechanical apprentices and performs planned job observations
- Works to ensure achievement of schedule compliance targets
- Efficient and effective repair of mechanical equipment
- Adhere to health and safety standards, and ensure good housekeeping in and around the plant and workshop
- Take part in root cause analysis and suggest ways of improving equipment and processes

**Key responsibilities include the following**:

- A good knowledge of mechanical / industrial equipment and maintenance in a complex environment
- Experience in plant maintenance activities and mechanical maintenance principles.
- Ability to be a self-starter - solutions driven approach to solve problems quickly.
- Proactive and driven with a keen desire to learn and apply.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Knowledge of variable speed gearboxes
- Replacement, repair, and assembly of gearbox components
- Replacement, repair, and assembly of brake and clutch systems
- Troubleshoot, service and repair various pumps, motors, valves, and power packs/units
- Assemble, test, repairs, and adjustment of various automated spot-welding equipment
- Perform effective maintenance, identify, and repair breakdowns timeously and accurately.
- Accountable to regularly perform planned and proactive maintenance on equipment to deter any failures in adherence with scheduling.
- Strictly adhere to all EHS regulations regarding safety and machine maintenance (LOTO / Isolation Procedures).
- Assist others where necessary in the maintenance of equipment and machinery and train other staff on the job where required (Mechanical Assistants).
- Perform standby duties and work flexible shifts / hours as and when required based on business needs.

**Education**
- Matric or equivalent
- Mechanical Trade Test (Fitter and Turner)
- 5 years’ post trade test experience within a manufacturing environment
- 3 years’ experience maintaining and repairing spot welding equipment, hydraulic presses, and power packs

**Technical Abilities**
- Perform basic welding activities
- Procedural awareness and understanding
- Achievement of work targets
- Cooperation and compliance with instructions
- Team cooperation and commitment
- Accountable to ensure that the plant is in working order from a mechanical perspective to minimize downtime and faults.
