Widney Transport Components is a supplier of specialist commercial vehicle glass and sliding window solutions. The company supplies solutions to the bus and train industry and is the only local accredited sliding window supplier for Toyota, Daimler Chrysler, General Motors, Nissan and Ford.

**Main job purpose**

To lead and direct the Technical Department in identifying, conceptualising, designing and implementing products and processes to satisfy the needs of the business and its customers by providing efficient and effective service delivery within the technical department and taking full accountability for achieving all set targets and profitability in the given area to support the Widney strategic plan.

**Main Objective**

To lead and direct the technical team to conceptualise, design and implement products and processes to satisfy the needs of the customers on an ongoing basis.

To identify and implement continuous improvement projects to improve efficiencies of processes and systems in the business to decrease costs, improve quality and ensure sustainability in the long run.

To manage and lead the department by directing activities, monitoring performance and developing staff to ensure that the objectives of the department are achieved on an ongoing basis.

To liaise and build effective working relationship with key stakeholders; including suppliers and customers; in order to improve supplier efficiencies and ensure overall customer satisfaction.

To monitor & control the overall department budget by determining the department budget, controlling expenditure, implementing cost saving strategies and monitoring overall department performance in order to meet the agreed targets.

Ensure all reporting requirements are met timeously and are accurate to facilitate business decision-making.

To ensure effective communication of relevant information to all stakeholders to support effective decision making for the business.

**Critical job requirements**

**Qualification(s)**
- Grade 12
- Degree in Engineering

**Knowledge**
- Good understanding on work study, production engineering and continuous improvements
- Working knowledge of work station and process design
- Knowledge of the automotive industry
- Knowledge of all relevant legislation e.g. OHSA, EE, BCEA
