News Anchor

Applications are invited for the above-indicated vacancy within Newzroom Afrika. The incumbent will report to the editor-in-chief.
Job purpose
A news anchor is a key member of the News Department, which is responsible for ensuring that the on-air product is delivered in an engaging, accurate and professional manner. Under the leadership of the Editor In Chief or his/her assignee, you will shape and create isiZulu news coverage that sets Newzroom Afrika apart from other broadcasters in South Africa and beyond.
Key responsibilities
Report news clearly and accurately in a way that engages the audience and provides a thorough account of the story or event.
Use editorial judgement to help determine the content of the newscast.
Interpret and present news stories so that the viewers or listeners can better understand them.
Interact with reporters while on air.
Conduct live interviews with experts who can provide additional information or opinions.
As an anchor you will be required to produce
Investigate stories.
Responsible for evaluating IsiZulu news leads and tips to develop perfect story ideas.
Build network of sources who supply information that allows NATV to stay ahead of its competitors.
Collaborate with the news team to select stories for broadcasting.
Organise selected stories in the most appropriate order.
Adhere to the journalism industry’s ethical code
Verify the authenticity of the news material collected from different sources before it goes live.
Study the news material collated from different sources thoroughly.
Work within tight deadlines and also derive work from other news team members on time so that the news is ready for the slot it is to be read at.
Source reliable information to support their stories and evaluate sources to determine if they have biased or misleading content.
Make public appearance and host special events when the need arises.
Offer ideas to improve the news channel.
Gather and verify accurate information regarding articles through interviews, remark as well as research.
Responsible for organising material and writes articles based on the details and information obtained.
Responsible for using various social platforms to give updates as well as news stories to the public.
Gather, verify and analyse data from sources.
Report breaking news as it unfolds.
Collaborating with the news director to choose stories to broadcast considering audience preference.
Continually research, identify, Initiate and cover stories.
Ensure that stories are ready and relevant for final products before broadcast.
Build network and maintain confidentiality of sources.
Stay abreast of news events, developments and meet story deadlines.
Network with other newsmakers and related sources.
Build network and maintain confidentially of sources.
Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
Arrive at least two hours or earlier as dictated by the call time before the show.
Skills and competencies
Degree in journalism
Five+ reporting and anchoring experience
Fluency in IsiZulu
Excellent written and verbal skills in IsiZulu
