**R&D Manager**:Patisserie** (**Johannesburg_, South Africa_)

**Position Overview**

The position is based in Johannesburg R&D Department, reporting directly to the _R&D Executive_,

**Mission**

Is to ensure necessary support to Sales teams by assisting on customer visits, giving training sessions on product knowledge, benchmarking of local products and also support operations with Process Improvement Engineer.

**Applied R&D (40%)**
- Be familiar with formulation, recipe, process, and equipment and support R&D Lab Technician if available
- Pilot project inline with the targets of the R&D Manager Patisserie Mixes
- Ensure continuous building of technical and scientific know-how.
- Food additive legislation knowledge.

**Customer Support, NPD and Innovation (30%)**
- Project definition based on sales or customer contact.
- Development of a lab prototype including raw material selection.
- Follow up of first production trial at the customer’s production plant if requested.
- Innovation: upon strategy of the R&D Manager Patisserie Mixes, develop strategic projects (collaboration with equipment suppliers, key countries).

**Support Operations (30%)**
- Comprehensive technical support on ingredients supply, process optimization and quality system together with the Process Improvement Engineer.
- Align with suppliers on raw material specifications.
- Non-conformities finish good and raw material: advice, support root causing and corrective actions, organize recuperation in collaboration with the Process Improvement Engineer
- Up scaling of lab prototype to production (in collaboration with the Production department) together with the Process Improvement Engineer
- Perform other duties as per operational requirements.

**Job Minimum Requirements**
- Matric (Grade 12) and a National Diploma in Food Science or relevant qualification.
- 3-5 years’ experience in the food sector; FMCG market preferrable; Patisserie orientated.
- Computer literacy: MS Office suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
- Accuracy will be highly required.
- Written comprehension - the ability to read and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
- Good communication skills - English is a prerequisite.
- Ability to read and write in English and any other language(s)
- Good personality, hardworking, teamwork, service orientated, creative, innovative, trustworthy, open to learn from feedback.
