**_ Position Purpose:_**

To manage the Diving section of the department, performing diving inspections and under water maintenance to marine

infrastructure and emergency repairs to Port vessels, to render a cost effective quality service to satisfy client’s needs.

**_Position outputs:_**

1. Set target dates for completion of projects.

2. Allocate unplanned work.

3. Plan training of subordinates within their section in line with the department’s succession plan.
4. Inspection and servicing of diving equipment.

5. Inspect underwater work sites.

6. Submit weekly feedback and progress meetings to departmental manager.

7. Create repair method to be applied by subordinates.

8. Monitor works order spending.

9. Control leave and relief arrangements.

10. Control budgetary expenditure.

11. Arrange Inspection tours for various stakeholders e.g., Chief Civil Engineer visits.

12. Monitor product / equipment changes on market to the benefit of the department.

13. Compile all documentation, reports and information as requested by departmental manager.

14. Management of subordinates’ time sheets, log sheets etc.
15. Manage all maintenance, estimating, progress and quality

control in their section.

16. Provide Technical advice to clients and engineers.

17. Communicate all underwater operations to Port Control for clearance.

18. Perform physical inspections of assets to determine workload for annual budget.

19. Supervise maintenance programs as per client’s need within
allocated budget.

20. Prepare estimates for detailed costing of diving work.

21. Supervision over various grades within the depot, supervise, develop and motivate staff, so as to operate efficiently to

maximise objectives.

22. Assist with preparation of and compiling of work specifications

for underwater maintenance work.

23. Manage contracts and direct supervision of contractors to

ensure quality work service rendering.

24. Resources Management: control resources (people, equipment and material), to maintain Port Infrastructure in a

cost-effective manner to satisfy client’s needs.
25. Ensure ongoing inspection of workmanship, materials and

equipment so as to maintain quality standards.

26. Distinguish training needs in the depot, so as to ensure that

staff at all levels are trained to latest standards in order to improve their skills.

27. To maintain a safe working environment for subordinates and those around them in accordance with Safety, Health and

Environmental Acts.

28. Control all documentation pertaining to work related matters and give feedback to management.

**_ Qualifications & Experience:_**
- Grade 12 (Matric);
- Qualified Artisan in any Building Trade;
- Class 3 Commercial Diving Supervisors Certificate - Registered

with Department of Manpower;
- Class 2 diving certificate;
- Driver’s license code 10 (C1);
- 3 Years’ relevant experience.
