The School of Built Environment and Development Studies seeks to employ fieldwork

supervisors to support the implementation of research studies to the highest quality

standards for the Umlazi Surveillance Initiative to Nurture Grassroots Action (USINGA).

USINGA is a health and demographic surveillance node of the South African Population

Research Infrastructure Network (SAPRIN).

fieldworkers doing quantitative data collection within USINGA. The incumbent will be

responsible for conducting field-based quality control checks; providing logístical support;
resolving all problems encountered in the field; and conducting training and monitoring

performance to ensure the timeous collection of data of the highest quality standards in

a cost-effective and ethical manner. The position will be full-time and based at our

Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) site.

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**:

- Senior Certificate/ certificate in surveillance data collection
- At least 3 years experience as a Fieldwork Supervisor in an HDSS
- Ability to supervise and train fieldworkers
- Knowledge of quantitative research data collection methods
- Understanding of project operations including project planning and ethical

conduct of research
- Good knowledge of the HDSS operations and study forms

Appointment to this post will be on the January 2018 Conditions of Service.
