Abattoir Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Abattoir Manager to oversee the operations of our facility. As the Abattoir Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and humane processing of livestock while adhering to all regulatory standards and maintaining high standards of quality control.

**Responsibilities**:
1. Leadership and Supervision:

- Provide leadership and direction to a team of slaughterhouse workers, supervisors, and support staff.
- Supervise and coordinate all activities within the abattoir, including slaughter, carcass processing, packaging, and distribution.
- Set performance goals for staff members and monitor their progress, providing coaching and training as needed to ensure optimal performance.

2. Operations Management:

- Plan and oversee daily operations to ensure the efficient and timely processing of livestock while maintaining high standards of product quality and safety.
- Monitor production schedules and adjust staffing levels and resources as needed to meet production targets.
- Implement and enforce strict hygiene and sanitation protocols to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and prevent contamination.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities to ensure uninterrupted operations.

3. Quality Control:

- Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure that all products meet regulatory standards as well as customer specifications.
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment, facilities, and finished products to identify any issues or deviations from quality standards.
- Take corrective action as needed to address quality issues and prevent recurrence.

4. Compliance and Safety:

- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including health and safety regulations, animal welfare guidelines, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to operations, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance.
- Conduct regular safety training for staff members and enforce safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.

5. Communication and Collaboration:

- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, inspectors, and auditors, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as procurement, sales, and logistics, to coordinate production schedules and meet customer demands.
- Communicate effectively with staff members, suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as meat science, animal science, or food technology is preferred.

2. Proven experience in meat processing or abattoir operations, with at least 5 years of managerial experience.

3. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team.

4. Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.

5. In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations and standards, including HACCP, USDA, and FDA regulations.

6. Familiarity with industry best practices and emerging trends in meat processing and food safety.

8. Willingness to work flexible hours and weekends as needed.
